Prep: Hot shower, hand strop blade
Coffee: Home roasted Costa Rica Tarrazu, black
    Soap/Cream: C&E Nomad superlather
    Brush: C&E Pure badger
    Razor: 1967 Fatboy @ 7
Blade: Astra, day 3, 3 passes
Post: Cold water rinse, Humphreys Maravilla Lotion
    'Stache Wax: Wacky Tacky

Turned the Fatboy up a notch to 7 just out of curiosity (I usually have it locked at 6). Think I'll leave it at 7 for a while - great shave today.

    Razor(s): (Start) 5/8 Tiger Wedge (Finish) 3/8 Emco D/hollow
    Soap: Classic Shaving Lilac
    Mug: Vintage Old Spice
    Brush: Medium Badger
    ASB: Dickinson's Witch Hazel
    Aftershave: No. 4711

OK Shave for the most part but still cannot get the right side of my neck! :angry019:angry019:angry019
Tried the 5/8 Tiger Straight that I found in an Antique Store and honed up. It is sharp but I think it needs a little more work. Switched to the 3/8 Emco to finish up. The Emco worked fine but I had to work over the r/side of the neck to get the stubble. (Left side of the neck was fine; go figure) Once the r/side got irritated it was a struggle to finally get the last of the stubble. The Dickinson Witch Hazel sure felt good to soothe the irritation. :ashamed001

I am REALLY getting frustrated trying to get my technique down. I probably should stick with ONE razor like the 3/8 Emco and stop bouncing around to different razors untill I get my proficiency up. I am a hard headed German that will not give up until I get a close, smooth, comfortable shave using a straight razor! I'm already missing my comfortable shaves with my DE's! :sad023

I see all the straight savers photos of their Shaves and I really feel like an idiot for not being able to just pick this style of shaving up and do it! Well, great shaves shown by all today Gentlemen.

Has anybody tried the Gem reversible blades? I got 3 of them with my new Gem Jr. still in the original wrapping. Should I try them? I love that I can turn it around when the first side is spent.

Not a bad shave today. Had a couple little nicks on my jawline, normal for when I use a single edge. The Vanilla aftershave sure smells good, I only bought a sample size but think I may need to pick up the 50 gallon drum size next time I put in an order.

Patience my friend, patience. I doubt that in the absense of my basic training with shavettes, my straight shaving would be as nice as it is today. At least your only issue is stubble. When I first picked up the shavettes my big issue was filleting my damn face:mad: Sounds like you probably need to take them both back to the hone and sharpen the feces out of them. Then 30 laps or so before starting the shave, 30 laps prior to the second pass and you should be in good shape.

Yep, I got the Micromatic figured out. 2 back to back bloodless comfortable shaves. Two more days before I switch. Now the challenge is to make it a little less work.....somehow.
