I haven't seen any commercials -- what's Gillette going to do?

I guess they're gonna unleash the 10 bladed razor and the motorized version's gonna have a 666 horsepower V12 engine - replacement blades will cost 200$ a pop :D

It is called the Gillette Fusion ProGlide. Apparently they just re-invented the wheel....

well guys, i guess i will bid you all farewell since i have to throw the HD in the dumpster and buy a new ProGlide. No use in resisting since it will obviously be a far better shave than anything that has ever been offered before. King C. Gillette is sitting at the right hand of God waiting for us all to accept his salvation. open your hearts and wallets and accept the miracle of multi-bladed deliverance. amen.

You don't have to wait. I was in a Walgreens, and they had the new 3 and 5 blade Schick Hydros. Obviously if it's newer it must be better. And yet here I am shaving with my Schick Krona. Obviously I'm not with it.

I highly doubt i'll have any interest in the new razor, but there's some really cool vintage shots in the commercial.

The photographs below were obtained via industrial espionage and are believed to be two prototypes to the new Gillette

I don't understand why all the build up about a new razor when there's absolutely nothing new about it at all. Second verse same as the first, multiblade plastic crap made for pennies and sold for a 2000% markup. When they bring back the Old Style Double Ring, then I'll be impressed.

Yes, but the blades will be made of a super alloy called tungstenunobtaniumiridium, and will last for at least 12 months on normal beards (6 months on faces like mine).

As far as it looks like,
it doesn't seems to be a different razor than the Fusion, i think Schick made a better inovation whit the Hydro.

    new gillette

somehow i think if kcg were alive he would be cringing and have been thrown out of the board room; for while he did take the concept of selling recurring consumables to a level not seen before, his company did provide shaving products that were quality and the razors have outlasted the consumables. how many men, do you think, will be buying fusions 100 years from now? do you think they will be able to get the cartridges?

sol92258 I have no earthly idea

so, after many weeks of seeing posts about this, I've finally seen the teaser commercial...

...and yes, the first thing that stood out to me was the sweet shots of vintage razors!
Guess that should go in the "Shaveneck" thread...:D

Until I started DE, I always preferred Schick over the Gillette offerings - and, in fact, my Krona is one of my favorite razors, the only razors I would rank higher are my super adjustable and big fellow.

exactly. I used to think the same way, but have changed my opinion and have to believe that he'd be at the least 51% pleased with what Gillette has turned out to be (well, except the whole P&G bit).
He did take the consumable concept to the shaving sector and made himself quite the pile of money with it, along with setting the trend.
The original parts then were high quality, long lasting as they are because, that's what they had. If plastics were around back then, I'm sure that he would have at the least explored that option. It may not have proved financially viable at the time, but who knows.
He was apparently an astute business man, and though morals and codes of ethic were higher then, reducing production costs and increasing gains would have been the route he would have at least explored.
We'll never know, but these arguments, as well as the others many have made before, have me accepting the possibility that instead of rolling in his grave, he'd be dancing on it.
    Who knows

it's interesting to note that kcg died penniless, having lost his fortune in stock in the great depression and having been maneuvered out of leadership of the company; after his ouster gillette stopped using serial numbers. in his later years he became a utopian socialist advocating public ownership of companies- so i'm not sure about whether he would have put profitability above quality, but that is a moot point because we will never know.

right, we just can't know. it's fun to speculate, but I know for sure I'd never even come close to getting it right, so maybe it had something to do with pirates and ninjas and undead monkeys....

    If they had any sense

If they had any sense they would go retro like the car companies are doing (Shelby's, Mustangs, and Camero) and bring back the FAT BOY.

    vintage shots

I too liked the vintage shots in the commercial. After that I just ignore the whole thing or shake my head at the people who will spend lots of money on a boring and inferior shave because they don't know any better.

Thanks for helping me know better y'all!

stingraysrock PIF'd away his custom title

I was in Sam's Club yesterday. They were hawking some kind of new razor by Gillette. Looks like it has a battery and a multi-blade cartridge. I walked right on by and did not investigate further because there was a line of poorly shaved men waiting to see the razor. I knew that if I went any closer I would end up sticking my nose in someone's business and tell them to get a wet shave kit.
