Wow, thank you so much for the wonderful compliment! I really appreciate your kind words. I try to present my daily shave kit selections as artistically as I can. (my DW is a great photographer and she gives me "what for" if I get lazy! ) I then use the photos as an ever expanding screen-saver. :laugh042 Next time I do a DE shave I will use my Slim Adjustable for the"center-fold" :happy102
Friday Morn. Shave--posted Fri. night. Arko Menthol SC Banat Boar Brush 1965 Slim Derby (1) Arko "Cool" AS Cream Today I used Arko SC for the 1st time. Put a DAB on the end of my wet brush, hit my face lathering, dipped the end of my brush in water 3x's and ended up with a thick velvety cushion of lather that looked like I should have been sitting in a Barber chair...) Now I love the Arko Stick, so the whole time I'm thinking, that I miss the stick, but 3 passes and touch-up later, my brush is still full of lather, and I'm standing there with an effortless BBS and smiling. I shaved with my '65 Slim at #9 with a new Derby, and it felt like there was no blade in the razor, so that lather must have been 'smokin'"...The Menthol didn't hit as hard as I would have liked, but I loved the shave !!
Hey Man; Your efforts do not go unnoticed, it's contributions like yours that help so much to make this site so special...Thats very cool to hear you'll be doing a center-fold on the Slim...You're the man for the job, and I know you'll enjoy the shave that goes along with it...)
Oh, eBay, like most of my other stuff. Lots of injectors available there, but the adjustables are a bit more expensive.
Merkur Vintage Slant Iridium super stainless blade Superlather-Godrej Menthol Mist SC with Masters SS 24mm Silvertip Badger Brush with Snakewood Handle TSD Iced Mojito Splash Lab Series AS strange combo of scents but it worked nicely for a solid 5 blade shave.
Just putting two and two together Danny (a lot of times I come up with 3! lol) but is that your Dad's mug and picture or yours? Very nice shot BTW!
But, Kind Sir, you still fail to answer my inquiry. Where might I procure such a fine specimen? Have a great day, Sir Bill!
hot shower merkur progress feather generic badger omega eucalyptus old spice original I finally got the notorious Feathers. Images of samurai swords and kurosawa movies danced in my head while I unwrapped these things. However, I came away unscathed I seriously doubt i am that good of a shaver yet, so I imagine it was the lowest setting on my progress that produced a relatively unharmed face! Im still deathly afraid of them. But I survived today!
Not quite that romantic, but close. My wife found the mug at a flea market. The pic is her father (my father in law) from WWII. He's still around and is a great guy. He's quite amused by my shave obsession. He gave me a great vintage scuttle that he used to use and has some old razors that he's still looking for. Unfortunately I lost my father when I was 9. I do remember his razor however-it was a Gillette TTO-I'm pretty sure it was a Slim-my brother concurred when I showed him my Slim. Thanks for noticing. I love your pics-they really tempt me to try straight edge. I have one that my barber gave me.
I kinda though the photo in the background was a WWII photo or at least vintage. It's really cool that your DW's father is still around and that you can share your shaving experiences with him. Hope that he finds the old razors and passes those Heirlooms down to you. All of us vintage shavers are helping to keep the past alive by enjoying these remnants of History. The mug is great! My DW is always finding neat stuff in the Antique Stores as well. One of these days you will be seduced by the naked edge and put that Barbers gift to good use!
I gotta say Danny is spot on with this. I am scared shizzless to try a str8 but Stroker, you make me want to with your awesome pics of your daily shave setup and your kind words and support of the others who post shaves too. I just wanted to say that. I've been thinking it for a while but Danny's comment opened up the avenue I was looking for to comment. You rock dude.:eatdrink047
Aw Shucks..:sad024 (give me a moment)...Thanks for all the kind words Guys, I really do appreciate it. I really enjoy hearing from everyone and sharing with them their shaving experiences. More than that, after a while a bond is formed and we all become a fraternity of men and ladies who all share in each others life experiences as well. Bob, I can remember when you, your brother and your Dad all shaved together at one of your reunions. Those are great times and you thought enough of us to share them with us. Thank you for that my friend. I really look forward to seeing the shave kits everyone uses each morning and am inspired to use "this or that" and to join in the fun and joking we do from member to member. This forum is ours guys, (with the excellent assistance and guidance of the Mods.!) and it can be as good as we make it. Now lets see some shots of your kits and it unable to do that..tell us about your experiences, we all enjoy them.
Quick question...perhaps stupid Do you design your SOTD the night before or on a whim in the morning? I find myself setting my kit up the night before. But I often change it, depending on my morning mood. What about the rest of you?
Friday Razor: 1954 40's Style SS Blade: Wilkinson Sword Brush: Omega Boar Soap/Cream: Williams A/S: Old Spice
Good question and it seems we all have a different method. Some seem to have a solid rotation on automatic pilot. I sometimes set things up the night before but as you I often change my mind. I mostly decide what I'm going to use minutes before the shave.
:sihns011 My choice of razor may have already been made if the blade in it is still good, but choice of software may not be made till I step out of the shower.
I usually decide on my razor the night before, depending on which one I haven't used for awhile (no set rotation) and the soaps/creams and such in the morning depending on how I feel. I might change my mind however if I see someone use something interesting though. There is always the opportunity to change the set-up.
