Lux DE Bigelow SC EJ 25 mm silvertip Lord Platinum (4) 4711 EDC Not the best shave today. I think my blade dulled or something, just wasn't that comfortable. The 4711 was nice though, just not a lot of smell to it...kinda like listening to a scream in the distance, you want to hear but just can't seam to listen in the right direction. <---- It was that but with scent.
Hot Coffee Hot Towel Arko: Shave Stick and "Moist" SC Omega 10029 Baby Pro Boar Astra (Blue)SS '65 Slim @ 9/6/6 Arko cool AS Cream Arko Nem Moisturizing Lotion Didn't post for a couple days, been seriously testing blades. Shaves have been awful. The scene has been too dark to write about, but today...today's shave was wonderful...) I don't think it could have been better... In the past I have tried the other types of Astras and I always thought they were cool but for some reason I never even wanted to try the Superior Stainless (Blue-Pack), but I'll tell you, they really knock me out !!! What a great blade. What a great shave... What a great way to start the day...)
Grandpa Shave Friday: Vulfix 247 pure badger Williams Mug Soap Gillette NEW Personna blade (day2) Witch Hazel Florida Water EdT Murray's original pomade for the hair (if anyone is interested). Good shave today. Williams is still a little difficult to handle. I had to hit the puck again after my first pass. Still the slickness works wonders with this NEW. I got a great shave out of it.
You pretty much nailed it Bob! In the time it takes to explain it...it's gone! It does do the aftershave thing but as for scent, not much there for not very long!
Shave Of The Day - May 21st :anifrozenToday's shave was brought to you by the letter "I"! :anifrozen
Saturday Hot Towel Arko: Shave Stick and "Moist" SC Omega 10029 Baby Pro Boar Astra SS (2) '65 Slim @ 3/3/7 Arko cool AS Cream Arko Nem Moisturizing Lotion Rating: 5 Blades Astra Stainless, Day 2, just as great a shave today as yesterday...funny it took me so long to even want to try these blades. for some reason I had dismissed them without a try. I did try the rest the Astra line up, maybe I felt the SP was their best so no need to try the SS's...I was wrong, I don't think one is better than the other, just different. And for some reason these Stainless's are absolutly knocking me out. Think this set-up is my new "Go-To"...)
First str8 attempt Gold Dollar str8 Gillette Slim Adj (3) circa 1968 Unknown blade. No markings on wrapper, arrows and Made in USA on blade. TSD Money Farts $9 dollar Shea badger brush Shop-Rite Skin Bracer knock off Okay, first thing is the brush: for $9 bucks it can't be beat. It was only the second lathering so it was a little bristley, held lather well. The loft may be a little long. Other than that not bad at all for $9. Now the str8: I must admit to some hypocrisy here. I saw my bro try to use this str8 with no instruction or otherwise and was scared to death that he was going to cut the hell out of himself. I did the same thing except I was lathered and in the bathroom with a mirror and he was dry and in the kitchen sans mirror. I went N-S to start and was only going to do my sideburn area, well this led to my cheeks, neck, and chin. Then it went to lathering up and going S-N, yes ATG. Went well, not a lick of a nick, blood, or discomfort. Shave wasn't very good but I knew that chasing a BBS on the first attempt with a str8 was going to end bad so I cut my losses and finished up with my slim adj. On 3. You can really appreciate aggression when you go from hog wild, balls out mayhem (the str8) to a slim adj on 3. I would liken it to trying to kill an elephant by beating with a fly swatter to where the str8 is like killing a fly with a cruise missile. Bad news is, I think I liked the str8. Need to open up the wallet a little further I guess.
Saturday, back to SE Kampfe Lather Catcher, probably 1913-14 I'm told Treet blade Proraso Cream Vulfix badger What a great shave. Just really, really, good. This razor looks a little scary with a blade loaded, maybe I'll put up a picture of that tomorrow, but that's an illusion. The feel is a lot like a Gem 1912. Really easy to get around the chin, and to go ATG on the neck. Shaving under the nose had to be side to side, but it worked. BTW, I think it was Dlaszar9 who suggested I could use this site as a background for one of these pictures. It's appropriate here.

Saturday It's the WEEKEND! :happy069 Time for the SEs! Prep: Hot shower, hand strop blade Coffee: French Roast, Dark, unknown brand (part of the coffee birthday gift from my church), H & B Soap: TSD Tommy Bahamma Type Brush: Vulfix 406, The Burlington Razor: Gem MM OC, gold finish Blade: Gem, day 2, 3+ passes Str8 Practice: 5/8 Genco Post: Cold water rinse, ice water splash, Brut ASB & AS 'Stache Wax: Firehouse Wacky Tacky Shave Rating: 5 Blades What a great shave this morning. Almost forgot to mention my near cato-strophy!! :shocked003 I got a little too close to the top left side of the mustache and took out about half a dozen hairs. Nothing serious, fortunately. Can't even tell. whew! I think I'm going to name my 'stache. I'll call him Van der Hagen. Seems every time I wax up, he sheds two or three hairs! :happy102 Interesting...my Vulvix 406 is pure badger, says so on the handle. I purchased mine from Classic Shaving. Here it says badger, as well. I had read someplace about it being boar. So I did a little Googling and found this one in boar. Just found it interesting. That is all. Carry on.

Congratulations on your first Straight Shave Bob! It sounds like it went very well with no nicks, cuts or irritation. You did well by not pushing it too hard the first time, it will get much better as your technique becomes more developed. It was about my 10th straight shave that it turned the corner and it's been sweet ever since. I think you're hooked my friend! Once you've had a good straight shave, DE's and SE's are so mild and benign there isn't that excitement and sense of danger that makes straight shaving so much fun! Of course you know, this opens up the whole new world of SRAD that will be worse than any other AD you have ever had! I am up to 23 straights now so I'm going to enter into a 12 step program to stop this insanity! It looks like Steve and Danny are about to make the leap as well so you have some good company in your new adventure! :happy108 I love the sound of buttering toast in the morning, sounds like a clean shave!

Razor-Pomco vintage Slant Blade-Feather Brush-Shea Moisture Shave (thanks for the heads up on this Bill!) Cream-TOBS Avocado SC Post-TSD Iced Mojito Splash Another 5 blader. That's a great little brush for $9. Nice little gash in my face from the straight attempt yesterday-it stopped bleeding easily but left me with a bit of a raised linear red thing. Too bad Mantic doesn't have a straight shave video. It didn't stop me from getting a great shave today.
