1. I use a separate bowl to lather, and I keep the bowl on a mug warmer, so I always have nice, hot lather regardless of how long I take to shave. I also keep a small pitcher of water handy so that I can easily adjust the consistency of the lather.
  2. I lather on the face, why waste the time on the bowl/mug when you can spend more time enjoying the lather.
  3. Yeah, tried that face lather with my OBR shave soap...not good for me. But...I'm thinking of getting an Arko shave stick as everyone here recommends them. Maybe that will work better.
  4. I use a large Ramekin to lather up the brush a bit. The bottom is wide so it seems to whip up the cream and soaps a little faster.
  5. I switched from a mug to the redneck scuttle a few weeks ago and that is all I use if I am not shaving with the Arko stick that day.
  6. Well hell I never thought to use a separate bowl/mug. Noob here. I love a good lather but it has always seemed to be way too much soap on the brush. How did this site elude me for the last year?
  7. I load brush on soap and then face lather.

  8. Tell me more of this redneck scuttle...I've been wondering about it. How about a pic or just a description will do

    Thanks
  9. The Redneck Scuttle is also known by its real name, a self watering violet pot, and they can usually be bought at Wal-Mart for @ $5.00.

Here is the post from Bob when he bought his, complete with pictures.
  10. Hmmm... How'd I miss that? Very cool! Thanks, Bill and Bob!
  11. Thanks Dridecker...I'll be checking that out soon!
  12. I wet my brush and pass it over my face to soak it good before my shave. Then I drench my brush and drip a bit of water onto my soap. I shake out the brush and re wet it again until it's dripping wet. I flick the wrist and then start to load my brush.

I know it's a lot of water but it's what works with my brush.
As I lather on my face the excess water gets brushed away and I face lather till I get the soap nice and creamy.

Always a perfect shave for me:)
  13. Today I used the lather in mug method. Much better lather, but still not close to what I'm reading most of you guys get. It's my technique or my soap. I'll have to keep experimenting. Glad I found this post.
  14. load brush in seperate bowl then lather in a scuttle
  15. I find that face lathering gives me a better shave than building a lather in the mug. It might be the extra time the lather is on the beard.

Haven't tried using a bowl yet. That is on the agenda.

  16. Just noticed my name tag after posting here..:happy108

Still using the mug and TSD soap lathers so nice. I do see it takes a bit of practice on loading the brush and getting right amount of water in there.
  17. One container for my soap and a bowl here. I have not tried a mug or scuttle yet but I am thinking about looking for a nice mug here soon :happy023
  18. Lather in the mug with the soap. No bowls.

And what's this Arko stick stuff of which you speak?:D
