Howdy all, hope you're all having a greats day so far. I've come to realize that we all care for our razors and other shave gear so much that we treat them like a member of the family. So my question is do these razors of yours have a name? Or am I the only crazy one that gave mine names? So far my razors are named Michele, The King and Woody.
I haven't named all of mine. It's like nicknames, they take time to come and I am but a simple n00b. But I have a razor named The Moulin Rouge. A French open comb Gillette. It was replated, but it's an old gorgeous cased razor.
lol well aren't we all just a little bit crazy for wielding flesh carving pieces of steel around our faces?
nope, you must be the only one... SISS (Move your mouse to reveal the content) SISS (open) SISS (close) from my wiki at B&B from many moons ago:
haha well then i guess im proud to say im crazy so whats the story behind the names of your razors? Mine is pretty straight forward Michele is a henckels friodur 5/8 named after my fiancé who gave it to me as my engagement present to me. The King is a Thiers Issard 6/8 named so just because it's the best razor I have and gives me amazing shaves And Woody is a restored heckeles 5/8 platinum that I bought of eBay. I just named it woody cuz of the wooden scales it has. As you can see nothing real special but I like the names none the less
Crazy is a frame of mind (so I've heard). I've never thought about naming my razor(s), BUT... if I did, my Lord tech clone would be named 'Lord Montegue'. Or my Feather Portable would be named a cliche such as 'Excalibre'. Are we to the point where we name our posessions? Geesh, what have we evolved to? I understand getting great shaves from the DE's we use, but naming them... we need to get out more. What's next, sleeping with our razors? Playing cards with them? Going for a nice stroll in the park with 'Techie' on a leash? Oh well, I suppose it's all in fun though. Next we just might see a velvet painting of DE's playing poker.
Naming my possessions is not something I do, but it doesn't seem terribly strange to me, either. We're all a bit eccentric around here, anyway, and proud of it.:eatdrink004
Hmmm, I have named things in the past but haven't named any of my razors other than their pre-determined names from their respective manufacturers.
The only inanimate object I've named was my first car. It was a '67 LeMans - the GTO Wanna-be. I had it painted up red lacquer with the black top (the vinyl was gone when I bought, so I just had it painted). Crager SS mags... she looked sweet. My buddies and I were talking about gas mileage. I said mine was a real beast on gas, getting only about 12mpg. That's when I started calling her "The Beast". To this day if I say I still wish I had The Beast, my wife knows exactly what I'm talking about.
Naming Your Razor... I actually think that's a good idea, but I'm scared to name my razor simply because I'm very forgetful and if I forgot its name, I'm sure I would get cut very badly the next time I used it!:happy102
I call my Gillette NEW - "The Meat Cleaver!" I call my Gillette OLD - "The Old One!" Ok, so they are not names! Still, they have personality!
Wow I need to come up with some new names fast. I have a whole bunch of new razors I didn't notice still needed to be named
You are absolutely batcrap crazy. I only name one of my many DE, SE, & Injector razors. That was my GEM Micromatic, which I have now PIF's to some poor fella can't remember who. But I called it, depending on my mood of the day, either the Micro"Junk"omatic, or the Micro"Crap"omatic. Just hated that darn thing! As for my other razors, well, I need a list taped to the inside of my medicine cabinet door with their usual Brand and model names just to know which one is next in my rotation. Asking me to give each a name is bordering on insanity simply because trying to come up with 40 some names is impossible for my weak brain. So I just let the naming alone and call them what they are.
This clearly illustrates the point that we're all different: I shave with straights, DE and SE razors of all types, but my favorites are the Micromatics -- I have two in my regular rotation, one is the open-comb version, the other is the Clog Pruf version. I like the Micromatics so much that I collect Micromatic-related memorabilia and have framed a couple of old GEM magazine ads. However, as much as I like my Micromatics, I haven't named them, but I see nothing weird about doing it. I've known people who name their guns, golf clubs, etc.
i'm pretty new so i hadn't thought of a razor's name before. if i had to choose it would be olivia. she had a cold touch and hurt me.
Basil, I am in your corner with my gloves tightly laced Brother! I believe that as several others have stated, when we name inanimate objects it is usually because there is a good story worth being told, behind each moniker. The only piece of shave gear I have named thus far is my red-tipped Super Speed. Before acquiring her (common reference to ships, hurricanes, typhoon and others forces capable of wreaking havoc ::mat), I had read many commentaries that indicating that while possessing the ability to be very aggressive, with the right touch/technique and blade-pairing, a red-tip could produce a superior shaving experience. Additionally, I have found since, you have to keep an eye on her, or she'll get out of control. Thusly, I have dubbed her, The Red-Tailed Little Dragon!
