So, I was at Kroger tonight to pick up Moon Pie Ice Cream.

As I was headed to the check-out, I passed the beauty section, and spied this.
    (cell phone pics, sorry)

Really? Ok, let's take a look, as the shaving section was right there. Just Williams. Nothing else.

I was at Target a few weeks ago. No brush or anything wetshaving related. Maybe Williams. Probably Williams. <shrug>

    But I saw this package.

So, I'm guessing the image of shaving brushes and such is just being utilized for it's upscale apparance.

Still, kinda cool. Hard to image we aren't turning marketing people's heads or something when you see this stuff.

Just from that first picture, that's the nicest looking, most open-aisle Kroger I've ever seen. You guys are all high-class there... even your Krogers! :D

So there's no shave brush in that box... just a picture of one?

Edit: Oh, duh. I see it -- it's a box with a glass shelf in it. And the picture shows some of the things you can hang on the glass shelf... like a shave brush! :D

The marketing people are just not paying attention. In the last ten years I've probably spent $1000 on shave stuff. I didn't start shaving right until Dec of last year (2009). I have probably spent $300 bucks, maybe more, since then. And I've been insanely restrained. I have to fight not to buy every single shaving related thing I see, even magazine articles and stuff. Almost a third of all my shaving costs have occurred in the last 6 mos. and NONE of it has been on the new stuff. We've screwed up their metrics by buying vintage probably?

It's brand new. I hate the older grocery stores in VA. They are all soo cramped. Not used to that. Can you say claustrophobic?

Actually, I wouldn't lay this on vintage. They aren't showing vintage shaving items. Those are modern wetshaving articles. And we buy plenty modern.
I remember reading somewhere that Gillette's sales had been down. Didn't they buy Art Of Shaving?

    Aren't we all? ;)

Sure, I can send you some Moon Pies, as long as it isn't a issue with Customs. Though you may want to wait till Fall.
Yes. Art of Shaving, Edwin Jagger, and Truefitt & Hill all sell such sets as seen in the first pic.

You're right, on all accounts as usual...
We are all living the good life, at least here at the Den...
Moon-Pies would be an issue with customs, we'd better make it "Moon-Pie" Shave Soap..
And since its too hot for shipping anything, better get it 2x's Iced...Just to keep it fresh :))....There now; coolness will be acheived...

I am here in Texas and for the life of me can't figure out how wet shaving isn't coming around. We tend to stick with things that work whether they are old or not. And if menthol is as cooling as some of you say(I will be ordering some menthol related products soon, any suggestions?) then why aren't more of us using it down here when it is hotter than hell outside? MAybe it is our lazy factor, I mean it is hotter than hell. And you can swim in the humidity here in Houston.

sol92258 I have no earthly idea

I had a head-to-toe menthol day Saturday - some tea tree and menthol shampoo, Bath and Body Works Mentha body wash, TSD Iced SubZero shave cream and Aqua Velva - I was avoiding ceiling fans for nearly an hour, it was that cooling! And all of that after mowing the yard in eleventy-seven degree temps here in the NE corner of The Republic of Texas - definitely give it a try!

as far as wet-shaving coming around in Texas, I swear every other member at B&B is in or from Texas (only slightly exaggerating :D), so we definitely have an showing in the traditional wet-shaving world

That's good to know sol. I am venturing into the menthol soon, as mowing in the eleventy-seven degrees is about as fun as a stuck turd.

Wegman's is by far the ritziest grocery store I've ever been in. Harris Teeter is a nice one too.

We got them (Wegman's) right up the road here in MD too.

I am a fan (pun, just wait for it) of all things mentholated and I tell you what, I'm convinced it is not temperature dependent, it is wind dependent! Ok, pun/wind dependency support time:

All I can say is :happy102
