Hi guys, I have just got a new boar bristle shaving brush. When I got it new it was completely looking good, it was in very much good shape, the bristles were a bit tough but I expected that in a boar brush. I was advised by someone that before using it for the first time, I should soak it in water for 1 day and I did that. After waiting for one day I was very excited to use it, and to my surprise it didn't even produce a single small piece of lather, I tried second time but just ended up wasting my shaving cream. Now, the brush's hair have lost their shape, they have become some like expanded one. However, they have become soft because of the soaking in water.
So, I want to ask is what wrong happen or this type of behavior is seen in boar brushes. Please help.
    Thank you.

Who told you to soak it for an entire day?

Let it dry out, and re soak it for 5-10 minutes and try to lather it then, as for the misshapen loft, its probably because the poor thing was water logged.

    I'm with Aaron.

The softness will come with use. The tips actually begin to split, thus giving the brush a fuller, softer feel. Lathering becomes better, also.

I completely dried it and then used a enough amount of water and used it but still, it didn't produce any lather.

Once I left one of my boars in a mug of water overnight by mistake. The same thing happened. After it dried out it worked fine.
    Good Luck,

When you say completely dry, did you let it sit for a few hours, or did you just shake it out?

With what Alan said, I would think the brush would work fine, after its been completely dried out.

I made sure that it is very much dry, I left it for one complete day.

Hmm, what is the exact brush you're using?

    Jaguar?

Also have you tried the brush with a different product, like perhaps a soap, or maybe shave stick?

Hmm, try it with like I said a soap or shave stick and report back, pictures if possible would help too.

this is the picture when the brush is wet for shaving. It doesn't produce any lather in such a condition.

Well looking at the pictures, not being able to tell in person, I don't think it was the soaking but the brush itself.

Have any of your friends or anyone you know used this brush?

Still like I said, maybe try it with a different product and use your face to lather it.

    *edit*

It just looks floppy in general, I think it perhaps is just a poor brush.

As I told before that when I got the brush new, no water nothing, it was completely a fine looking brush. I asked some of the local barbers they say that use it for sometime and it will get fine, new brushes often behave in such a way; but, I find their advice poor.
In India most of people use nylon brushes, natural ones are used only in saloons.
The brush was not at all floppy initially.

Even though Alexey was somewhat blunt, he probably is right.

Unless half of the brushes bristles fell out while soaking, it probably wasn't that good of a brush to begin with.

Still though and I will leave it at this, try another product with it you might get it to work, you might not.
