I just got my first Arko shave stick. I know that I am going to ask the obvious, what is the best to lather it?

Sorry, I'm not quite sure what you mean here. :o

Do you mean best way to use it, or best brush type to use with it.

I use it both as a shave stick, rubbed and lathered directly on my face, and I also have some that I've pressed into a mug that I use like a regular puck of shaving soap, lathering in the mug rather than directly on my face.

Nah! Splash water on the face, rub stick on face, wet brush, rub brush on face, presto! Lather!

I like to over do the lather with Arko, mainly because its cheap and believe it or not I love the smell....

I splash water on my face like Jeff, splash some water on my hand, rub the stick in my hand to get it started and softened up some, then I rub the stick over my wet face.

I use mine as a stick the way it was intended to be used, and I get enough lather for 3 guys to shave! :D

Actually 1oldGI is our resident Arko expert. There have been posts about using a cheap cheese grater to grind it and put it in a bowl, etc. Just do not microwave it because that destroys it. :signs046

Never tried the Arko, but as I don't like to face lather, the one stick I have tried was Speick and it was quickly grated into a bowl after the first use as a stick.

The Arko is soft enough to press into a mug with no grating required.

I have two sticks going right now. One is in an old spice mug. The other I use like a bar of soap. I rub it between my hands and then apply it to my face with my hands before whipping up a lather.

I tried the whole stick on face but ended up mashing it in a bowl and lathering it up that way. I like it like that.

I currently have it in both stick and bowl form. For me at least, it just seems to be better as a stick (predominantly a face latherer)

I normally bowl lather but I use my arko as the stick. Just wet the face and rub the stick all around the beard. I am always amazed at how much lather I get. It barely looks like I have anything on my face, then I start with my wet badger and it seems like the lather just explodes on my face. Love the arko stick!

I personally slice it up and leave it in urinals  .

I milled some into a bowl a while back after getting a small piece from a stick in the Grab Bag. Very nice, slick lather. Makes for a fantastic reprieve from my normal menthol laced shaves. Highly recommended.

In the interest of intellectual integrity, I must point out that Jeff was the Arko Shavestick guy long before I jumped on the Arko bandwagon.

Ditto that. Even when I add shredded Arko to a melted puck, full lathering still largely occurs on the face, not in the bowl. This "boosting" does improve the puck's performance provided heavy face lathering is still done. Direct applying the Arko stick to the face is better yet.
