    Hello Everyone,
I have only been at this for about a month and continue to learn daily from this forum. I was wondering if anyone knows a good place to gather some samples of different Bay Rum A/S. I have not smelled any type of Bay Rum, but have heard so much about it that I want to try it out. I just did not want to purchase an entire bottle of a flavor that I don't like. Any advice here would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know where you can get the samples. I am sure one of our vendors could help you out. Bayrum is a pretty mild scent that everyone usually likes. You wouldn't be going out on too much of a limb if you get it.

I have not tried any other brands but I recommend dominica bay rum you can get it from westcoastshaving.com its about 10 bucks. it smells very natural no chemical smell or coloring. very nice. they have a lime version its good but the original smells and feels better.

Master's bay rum is very straight-forward. It only contains bay rum oil without other scents. It is cheaper than ordering samples, probably.

I know you can get their soap sampler of all five scents. Not sure about AS sampler.

Just a satisfied customer. Jeff gave some good links.

typThe cheapest way to try bay rum is to find a Walgreens in an area with a hispanic population. Don't go to the shaving products section, but go to the ethnic products area and look for Superior 70 from Puerto Rico. It is classic barbershop bay rum with staying power. It should cost you less than $2.00.

I made my own bay rum a few months ago. You would be really surprised how simple the ingredients are. They are mostly spices, witch hazel, alcohol, and water. You can adjust the amount of spices and other ingredients to suit your noses taste. There are a lot of recipes around the web for Bayrum AS's. If not any department store should have a large selection to sample from, Macy's, Von Maur, Nordstroms. My Personal Favorite Bay Rum is Casswell Maseys AS Balm.

I like Ogallala. I have the bay rum shave stick, the aftershave/pre-shave/cologne in bay rum, peppercorn & Limes, bay rum & sandalwood and one that's strictly bay rum. All three are in small bottles. I bought them used but I believe they're relatively inexpensive to try the different bay rum cocktails and it's a fantastic fall scent IMO.

I bought a sampler pack from ogallala. Had like 5 of their bay rums all in 2 oz bottles and at the time they sent me a free full size bar of their soap. It's a nice product, but the scent seems way different from masters or clubman.

I like Pinaud's Bay Rum the best, although I've only tried one other bay rum, Ogallala; and it isnt a true bay rum but bay rum w/limes and peppercorns. Pinaud has nice spicy scent with staying power which I enjoy the best out of the two.

As far as the cheap bay rum, Pinaud/Clubman wins hands down, it sticks around and burns the crap out of your face like Dominica...

The thing is, I'm on my 3rd bottle now and as much as I want to ignore it and get away from it, its sadly the only AS that my face accepts and keeps a normal sheen, not greasy nor dry all day.

How does The Shave Den bay rum aftershave compare? (I have used other varieties of TSD Aftershave, which I like very much.)

The only problem I ever had with the Pinaud Bay Rum is that I kept smelling cinnamon all day long after I put it on...it made me smell a bit like a Christmas Cookie.

Another bay rum to try is Royall Bay Rhum. My personal favorite. It's very similar to the Pinaud BR, but without the cinnamon. Not as cheap as some of the options listed here, but extremely good. I found a 4 oz. sample at Marshall's once for $4.00, but it usually goes for much more than that.

I also second Master Bay Rum because it's affordable and it smells very good.

I like Superior 70 Bay Rum and have come to use it on a daily basis.

It's inexpensive and has a nice classic scent.

I've tried Pinuad, Masters, Dominica, and Superior 70, and like them all. I'd like to add: if you are looking for a very light weighted (and no spice) but decent BR, consider Stephans too. I usually prefer more punch, but there are days when lighter fits better.

Also, TSD's BR and Signature splashes are good too. If you are looking for some serious linger, try the TSD BR Colognes. All the TSD BR's are natural scented with little or no spice notes. The splashes are available in samples too.

Masters Bay Rum can easily be picked up at Sally's Beauty Supplies and very inexpensive for what you get. Pinuad / Clubman Virgin Island Bay Rum can be found at many Walgreen's and some CVS stores. Both are very nice. The Superior 70 is also very good if you can find it at a Walgreen's near you.
