I'm close to having one of each letter type of Schick injector. Only the type O remains. I just got the types A and D in the picture below within the past ten days. What can I say? I just like injectors. Perhaps I'll have more to write or show later. In the mean time, here are my two recent acquisitions.
:happy088 :happy088 I've been putting it off, but I may just have to give the injector a try. My wife and I are going out to hit the antique shops this week. I'll keep an eye out for one. I'm going to dig around, but since I'm here I'll ask...if you have a link for injector info, sure would appreciate it.
Would you please explain how the type A works -- does the head fold down into the tube? Or is the tube where the blades are stored? I've read that the concept was based on the repeating rifle magazine, but how does the metal tube to which the head is attached act like a magazine? Photos would be helpful. Thanks for any enlightenment you can provide.
Here's a link that describes the differences in models. If you don't find anything you like, send a pm. I have a couple extra G-types laying around. http://www.safetyrazors.net/schick/schicktech.htm
Nice looking razors. Have you had the chance to shave with either yet? If so, how do they compare to the more common models?
The head folds back until it's level with the handle, but does not go back into it. You load a clip full of blades inside the handle. Then the back part of the handle pulls out and pushes back in to inject the topmost blade into the head, which ejects any blade that is already in there. I haven't shaved with either of these yet, but I have verified that the repeating mechanism on the type A works. In my other repeating razors, types B and C, I have only loaded one blade at a time after verifying that I could load more. You'd think that water could get inside the handle and rust the spare blades. Very neat concept for a travel razor, though. And I'm actually signing off for the day, but if there is any interest, I could post pictures some other time showing how the type A loads.
Thanks, Dale. Great stuff. Hitting some antique places today, a few more on Thursday. Hope I find something worth while.
I love Injectors as well. I have a G, I, J and an M. The adjustable (M1) is my favorite. I get such great shaves with these over DE razors. I assume this has to do with the fact that the head is already angled causing it to shave more like a disposable razor. I think the thickness of the blades works well for me since I have a pretty dense tough beard. I can get a lot more shaves out of an Injector blade than I can out of a DE blade. That Type A you have is beautiful. Have fun shaving with your collection.
Thanks, Slivovitz, for the explanation. Very interesting. In all my years of wet-shaving, I had never seen one of these before.
Scored an injector today, along with an Old Spice Ship Friendship mug. I believe the injector is an E model. The razor, box, instructions, and two injectors are all in pretty good shape. I'll get some pics up when I get home.
The E models are good shavers. If the injector magazines are the ones from that era, though, you might not want to risk using those blades. Just an opinion, but I'd suggest getting some modern blades for your first injector shaves. Enjoy the razor!
Thanks guys. Yeah, good suggestion on not using the blades. I was kinda tossing back and forth about using 'em, but you made my mind up. Jeff, if you're offering a few blades, I'll take you up on it. Much appreciated.
I have a 1950 model G and a model J.. like them both but I think the PAL Injecto matic's that I have give better shaves to me. Maybe the shorter flat handle not sure. But I love all my injectors.. second in shaving only to my real SE's and better then my DE's. IMO
