Well I have decided to try out DE shaving. I have been using straights for a month now, but some times I just need to get past all the extra prep that a straight needs, and just shave and get off to work. I bought the Edwin Jagger DE89L with some Durby blades. I know that I still need to take my time during the shave, just trying to shave a few extra minuets off the whole deal. I also don't want to keep using my Shick quatro when there is a better option available that doesn't demand as much time and possibly effort as a straight. Any one else have this razor? Like it, hate it? I hope it will be just as fun as my straights. Brian
You'll love it! EJ is one of the best companies still producing DE razors. 89L is most probably their flagship model, setting standards for Merkurs and Mulles. Welcome to the club.
Nice. While I don't have that particular razor, I can't say that I recall too much negative about it. Derby blades, on the other hand.... I just hope they work for you. They're not for me. Enjoy that new razor! :happy088
Just received my first DE shaver about an hour ago - 89L. Very nice piece. I'll probably give it a shot tomorrow morning and hopefully not get too hacked up! Having had no experience with DEs and mostly used an electric or multi-blade cartridge, I was surprised to see how thin and flexible the DE blades are. Nice choice by the way...
I got that particular model and although I've never used derby blades, the sharks that I use with the EJ 89L work flawlessly. Such a smooth, close shave. You chose a great razor.
I have the DE89L and found it to be excellent, both in terms of shaving and quality of construction. The English Shaving Company currently has them in stock, as do Best Grooming & Shaving Tools and Shoebox Shaveshop. The Muhle R89 uses the same head although with a different handle. It is also quite a bit more expensive that the DE89L in most online stores. Connaught Shaving sells them for about US $36.00, though, much less than many other outlets. I am not affiliated with any of the above sellers, but have had excellent buying experiences with them all.
EJ is relatively young company. Muehle R89 and R106 is basically a EJ 89L with a different handle. Companies work together.
