    Hello all,

First time posting, and first time using a straight razor and brush today. To start, I swirled the brush around in the bowl to get a lather going, then swirled it on my face to spread the soap around. I notice that the bristles stayed very tight and straight, perpendicular to the handle. I didnt think much of it until I finished up and saw that the center of the brush was extremely knotted and tangled. I'm not at all sure what I did wrong, but more importantly, I can't find a way to get the brush back to form

    Please help

My horse hair did that when I tried swirling . I had a little comb I used to comb it out while it was wet

Sounds like you were using wayyyy to much pressure, you can shampoo it and comb it out...

    Ditto.

I had a horse knot of indeterminate origin that was set into an old handle. I never could get that brush to do anything without getting tangled up.

I know the OP states badger hair but I have never seen this problem on a badger, only the aforementioned horse...

You would actually not want to use shampoo but ratehr conditioner. As wierd as it sounds you would want a pet hair conditioner vs human also. This will loosen the fibers and help comb it out.
