The Speick cream is fantastic--I owe myself more shaves with it, and the Booster Mosswood aftershave is used in a lot of barbershops here.

Fraser's Original A/S: Dickinson's Witch Hazel, Speick Balm I'm not a Fraser's fan, mainly because of the scent, but it is a capable cream otherwise. The shave this morning was excellent--close, smooth, and comfortable. I sometimes use the above combo (minus the pre-shave soap and substituting a Gillette Tech for the Progress) if I travel. I keep a couple of sample containers loaded with Fraser's in my travel bag. Lately, though, I have come to prefer the convenience of a shave stick for travel.

Been a little too hectic around the Zoo for me to post my SOTD every day so far this week, so I'll condense them here: Shave Of The Day - Tuesday, March 1st Hot Shower Мыло для бритья ~ Russian "Shave" Soap Ever-Read Badger Brush ~ The Butterscotch Beauty Took a nice hot shower, stepped up to the sink and used the sample slice of soap I was sent as a shave stick by rubbing the slice all over my face, and that is as far as I made it with this horrible excuse of a shave soap... Went to lather it with my brush, and all I could get was some foam (not lather) built up, that quickly dissipated before I could work the brush from one side of my face to the other. Tried re-applying the soap to my wet face thinking maybe I didn't have enough soap loaded, only to watch the same thing happen. After messing with it for far too long I was out of shave time, washed the slime off of my face, and went shaveless for the day. Never thought I would go this low, I don't have a picture for it, 0 blades! Shave Of The Day - Wednesday, March 2nd TSD Iced SubZero Preshave Balm ~ :freezing :freezing Hot Shower Vintage Rubberset Boar Мыло для бритья ~ Russian Shave Soap (That's what I've been told) Erasmic Shave Stick ~ Old Formula Mitchell's Wool Fat Clix 3 Piece Razor Super-Max Super Stainless Blade ~ Day 5 Witch Hazel/Osage Rub Blend Aqua Velva Classic Ice Blue Aftershave Thinking maybe I somehow wasn't getting enough of the Russian "Shave" soap loaded, I proceeded to rub the damp bar on my two day old growth so heavily, I looked like I had the start of a Santa Claus beard, and followed that up by loading up my vintage boar on top of the "shave" soap. Took the wet brush to my face and proceeded to watch the exact same thing happen as did the day before, the soap started to build into foam and quickly dissipated before resembling anything close to a lather. My wife was watching it all happen, and was luaghing at how fast the foam would vanish. After working it for well over a minute without anything close to a lather forming, I grabbed the Erasmic stick and rubbed it over my whiskers and brush, thinking I would at least end up with a passable lather. No dice! Whatever anti-foaming ingredient that is used in the Russian "Shave" soap, completely knocked the lathering abilities out of the Erasmic old formula. Rinsed out the brush, washed my face until all trace of slime was gone, then loaded up the brush with Wool Fat, and proceeded to experience a fantastic shave from a proper shave soap. Russian "Shave" soap ... 0 blades! Mitchell's Wool Fat... 4 blades! ~ Shave Of The Day - Thursday, March 4th TSD Iced SubZero Preshave Balm ~ :freezing :freezing Hot Shower VDH Boar Ever-Ready Badger Brush ~ "The Butterscotch Beauty" Feats of Clay Scuttle Мыло для бритья ~ Russian "Shave" Soap C.O. Bigelow Cream Clix 3 Piece Razor Super-Max Super Stainless Blade ~ Day 6 Witch Hazel/Osage Rub Blend Osage Rub ~ :freezing :freezing :freezing Pinaud Clubman Be a glutton for punishment I decided I would get that Russian "Shave" Soap to work one way or another, and would get a practice lather done before my shower, that way I could use it properly. Even though my Vintage Rubberset has enough backbone to strip paint off of a house I thought maybe since it has a small knot, that using the VDH boar would work better, but the Russian "Shave" Soap would have none of that! I have literally rubbed so much soap off of the bar you can clearly see the indentation, and marks in the surface from the stiff brushes that have attacked it, and all for naught. As I tried to build a lather in the palm of my hand, all I was rewarded with was a slimy palm, and damp brush. I conceded defeat at this point, and carried the soap into the shower with me to use there, but once again the Russian soap refused to do what was asked of it, and refused to act anything at all like a soap. So in the end I had to use the bar a of Dove to get suds going, and clean my body. Stepping from the shower, I had a fantastic shave from the Bigelow cream, followed with the great smelling Pinaud Clubman. Мыло для бритья ~ Russian "Shave" Soap... 0 blades  Shave with a real shave product, 4 blades! ~ ======================================== So in the end the Russian "Shave" Soap turned out to be anything but that, and was a failure as a shower soap too, so has taken up residency in the circular file cabinet.
Rolls Imperial #2 (I think) TGN Silvertip Badger Dalain D'men Unscented Cream L'Oreal AS Balm Pinaud Clubman Today was my first attempt at shaving with the Rolls, and it was both good and bad. I don't think the blade was quite sharp enough. Gave it 50 reps on the hone and another 50 on the strop, but I don't really know how to tell if it's ready or not. But I strapped it on, and did a full 3 passes before I switched to the G-Bar for the finish. By the time I was done with the rolls, I was nowhere near shaved, but I definitely removed a decent amount of hair. I'll try again tomorrow. Any tips on readying the Rolls? Should I run it over the hone some more? And thanks again to Greg(InDallas) for providing the handle!

Olivier, Can't say what might be wrong until I've seen the inside of your Rolls, Strop Hone etc.. Should look like this for best performance. Note the absence of grease. And looking at your blade, I think I know what was wrong with you handle. By the scratch all the way accross the back of the blade, I'd guess you have a colaspable handle. It doesn't "unscrew" like the one I sent you. It colaspes and you have to cram the blade into the grip (it truely sucks).

Feb, 5 My last try to lather up 'Bergamot 'For Shaving' soap' was a total disaster. Gents and gals, I feel very sorry for this 'shaving product' that seems to be totally useless.
