Just picked up some Rise Shave Cream at the dollar store. A 2-ounce tube was....you guessed it...$1.00, so I had to give it a shot. I'll probably try it tomorrow. Has anyone tried this cream yet? The label said "new", but I know Rise has been around for years. This just happens to be the first time I've ever seen anything other than foam from this brand. Maybe they are re-introducing the cream after a long hiatus?
I suspect it must be brushless. The word "brushless" does not appear anywhere on it, but the directions suggest "A thin layer is all you need". I get the impression it's not made to lather. The scent is great; I look forward to trying it.
I have seen Rise before... I have not gone to the Googles as of yet... but is the tube like.. pink and green, or yellow or white and red and green?
Yes, this is definitely a brushless cream. More like a gel than a cream, actually. The lubrication is nice, but I feel that I need to add some lather over top of it.
Old Name Rise is an old old name from the 50's America. Now that we live in the "China" America, Rise is now made over there and sold for cheap here. How's that for progress???!! Point being -I do not like or trust products from China that I have to eat or put on my skin. There is little or no control over there and I believe they take all the chemicals from other process's and put them back into products and ship them to us to get rid of. Look at the Chinese sheetrock issue in Florida these last 5 years and paint from over there. Read the label first on these and any cheap skin care products then make your own choices. The tube you have may not be from China, but most are these days.
Rise Shave Cream... I tried it and it gave a good enough shave. However, I'm so used to having a nice layer of either thick foam or soap on my face that it felt a little funny having such a thin little layer. It kind of felt like putting Johnson and Johnson's First Aid Cream on my face. I ended up giving the five tubes I bought to a friend, thinking that if he didn't like it he would probably throw it away so no big loss. I guess I'm just an old dog that doesn't want to learn tricks.
I thought the Rise brand was dead. When I first started shaving in 1955, I used Rise canned foam--I thought it was one of the better foams of the era. Hey, what did I know? But I haven't seen the brand in years, and am now a confirmed lather cream and soap guy. I, too, would be a little nervous about using a Chinese product on my skin.
