I started DE shaving about 6 months ago after going into The Art of Shaving. After i had enjoyed my new toys I started looking around on the internet at differnt razors/creams/pre shaves/post shaves. WOW AOS IS A RIP OFF!!! I got pre shave oil, badger brush (Entery lvl), cream, and moisturizor for $100. Now I feel that i could get all that for around 40-50 bucks depending on brush quality. But it did start me on my newest and favorite hobby! The lather is very quick to come and will hold for quite some time. I personally take 3/4 passes depending on my time allotment. Smooth when it is there and the smell is second to none it is just great!!!

    Hope this helps!

That exactly how I got my start. The preshave oil I can take or leave now that I know whats up.I will be getting more of the cream and aftershave when I run out. I love it. The Brush is so so but its not a shedder and i find that it works up cream and soap wonderfully.

YESSSIR. My first shaving cream was TBS cream. Good cream and still use it, as it is locally available. I have yet to use AOS creams, i want to try there sandalwood have heard the scent is wonderful.

AOS makes a nice cream. You could do worse, much worse, like ... using canned goo!

TOBS is a better cream I think, and the price for TOBS is a bit less than AOS depending on the vendor.

But really, AOS is a nice cream.

I am an AOS fanatic. Straight up. I hate their staff and prices to death though.

I have about 5-6 years of their products stocked.

The soap is a little much, but great on sale. The cream is fair price, I think.

I love the balm, but definitely twice the price.

The preshave oil used to be good. The new stuff is garbage.

The cologne is a favorite. I'd wish for it to be $20 less, but am willing to pay full price.

I agree with Xezmer, I think their products are overpriced but I think the quality of their products are great. The scents are wonderful, and I especially like the Sandalwood. Whether it's worth the money is a decision only you can make, but when you consider how long the products last, it can outweigh the initial cost.

Totally agree just initial investment for somebody that is new to this art seems a bit steep because there is no other cut and dry way into wet shaving (store wise that is). I dont think i have ever seen another store that was formulated only around shaving... But i have only been at it for 3 months so what do i know :happy102.

Well, most Walmart stores have VDH soap pucks, and you can sometimes get Shea Moisture brushes at Target. But as far as an entire store dedicated to shaving, no, there aren't that many

AOS sandalwood cream smells gorgeous, perhaps the nicest of all the AOS creams, and it also has dynamite lather. However, it's way too expensive.

I would have to guess any brand that is as commonly made? I mean what is more expensive than AOS that is not made in somebodys basement and only 100 tubs a year are made??

Stuff like Palmolive Classic, Nivea, Arko, Ingram, etc, which work just as well for a very reasonable price.

Another nod to the overpriced for what you get. I too went to the AOS store when I was starting out.
There are many soaps/creams as others have indicated that work as well , if not better ( in my opinion) .
But I do have to say, the smell is great with the Sandalwood. The creams/balms,, they work. Here too, there are others that are just great.

Yeah, they are definitely on the expensive side. But their creams are excellent quality and do last a long time if used little by little or as much as you need. If I ever needed more, I just dip my brush in the cream or just grabbed a little bit (dime size amount) and lathered up.

To be honest their after shave balm is really expensive and not worth it, when there are just as good after shaves out there, if not better for a much cheaper price. Their pre-shave oil is 50/50 here. I don't like the fact that it does take a strong hand to message it into the beard and it does get in the way of the blade for those hard to cut places, such as the neck. I'd recommend buying either Zirh or Lab Series pre-shave oils ( a lot less than AOS' price) and it really does a much better job of protecting the skin. And with Zirh, you can reactivate the oil by rubbing some water on your face and this works over and over and it does last! You can get about 8 shaves with one usage of this stuff.

I was looking at the AOS Sandle wood on-line...

Then found some at Sephora. The sandalwood smells great! I would have bought the full size collection (shave oil, cream, after balm, & brush for $100) but they only had unscented!?! in the store.

I was wondering if the shaving brush is any good.

    Comments welcome.
