Hey guys, I'm back from the internet grave after a month-long media break. It's great to be back on here again with my old/new friends. After my last haircut I was admiring the clean shavette shave of the back of my neck, and thought I'd like to keep it like that all the time. So today I did a shower shave with my old Gillette Sensor cartridge and Arko stick. I went ahead and lathered up the back of my neck and shaved it totally on feel, not using a second mirror to see what I was doing. It's really awkward and hard to get a feel for shaving back there, and I cut a nice gash into my skin, but I think with some practice I'll get better and be able to keep my neck looking like I just came out of the barber shop every day. I was just wondering if anyone else does this, and if you have any helpful tips.
Yea!..im a hairy guy (wifes never minds)..I always shave my neck after giving myself a #1 haircut on my own doing..pain in the rear with DE..easier with SE and Mach3..ahh..much easier :happy102 ST
Hey Art! Welcome back! The wife takes care of my neck with the trimmer. You are a brave, brave man doing it blind with a cartridge!
It just takes practice, I shave my head everyday with no mirrors to see the back with a DE. Just like anything, the more you do it, the easier it is. I just draw a mental image of what I am doing, trying to keep in mind pressure and angle.
I also shave my head every day with a DE and not cutting yourself will come in time. Getting a straight line is another matter entirely. I really struggle to get a straight line with trimmers before I started shaving the dome.
I use king of shaves gel and a mach 3 on my neck twice a week. Works great. I tried extra lather from my shave and a DE but the former really does leave me more smooth and it's so much easier.
Same here almost. I don't use a guide anymore, I just use the clippers, then shave my neck with a mirror. I don't try to get a straight line shaving down, just up. If I'm shaving up to create the straight line, it's not quite as crisp. If my wife's around, sometimes I'll get her to do it. I haven't done it yet with a DE but I'm getting ready to cut my hair again, sooooo I will in the next few days.
Indeed - welcome back! I get a haircut every 4 weeks, so generally don't worry about it. If, for some reason, I have to stretch out to 5 weeks between cuts, I'll have my wife trim my neck with my Whal beard/mustache trimmer.
I head shave everyday as well so I agree with AnB_Daddy. I will add on thing. The Sensor razor has a lot of pivot play in it. So much that when I use it on my head many times I will get a cut due to the angle and movement of the head. I shave my head with a DE or a Trac II cartridge. The fixed head takes a variable out of the equation and allows your hand to work on angles without a variable head constantly changing that equation. Go out an get a Trac II or equivalent handle and some good carts and you will find that your neck shave may suddenly become a pleasure.
Good to have you back Jeff! BG grabs the Star 1912 every other week and hooks me up with the neck shave!
Welcome back. I shave the back of my neck using the two mirror system and a 1940s Gillette Superspeed. I usually have to do it in between haircuts. While YMMV, I have found I am better off doing one pass with the grain and doing it more frequently than trying to get it BBS.
I shave the back of my neck about twice a month. Just lather all the way around... its easy though with a straight.
I use the 2 mirror method and a 38c-----the longer handle helpes a bit with the back of the neck. Just lather up VDH and brush it on.
I cut my own hair with clippers every 3-4 weeks. When I'm done I always take a shower and shave the back of my neck using hair conditioner and a Mach 3. It is the only thing I use the Mach 3 for anymore (well, that and manland). The swivel head on it makes it easy to do by feel and I don't worry about cutting myself. It is awkward at first, but you'll get the hang of it.
Same here. Clippers on #1 for the head and Mach 3 and shampoo/soap for the back of the neck while in the shower. Mach 3 is great for back of the neck.
I shave my head with DE, SE, Injector, Atra, Headblade, Str8. When I'm not shaving my head regularly, I shave the back of my neck with a DE, SE, or Injector. I have curly blond hair that's very fine and it grows very curly and fuzzy on the back of my neck, at the bottom of my hairline. It grows upward, as opposed to the rest of my hair. It gets on my nerves, so I shave it off.
I shave the back of my neck with whatever DE razor or Injector I'm using at the time. I just rub some water back there and go to town.
