I don't know why injectors have died out. I mean, when there were no plastic, multiple blade razors around, they were much easier to change the blades and shave with them. I guess Gillette had better marketing

Hey Man!! Great to see you here!! And from the looks of things you must be sporting a pretty close shave from that 1912 Travel razor...I figure with the close shave yesterday from the OCMM, you probably woke up with an almost DFS happening, and then to follow-up with a perfect shaver like a 1912...You probably have one of those "BBS's on Steroids" looking shaves...LOL...

By the way, Alan...Is the 1912 your favorite? They have been getting alot of rave reviews....

And I'm with Marc on the "Feels Like Cheating" thing...If the shave's great, I'll take it everytime...

Well, I said I would post some pics of the SEs I used for the week.
Here they are, along with the brush I used that day...

Sunday - Gem Push Button w/ Mohawk 3-338 (love this brush)
Monday - Gem MM OC w/ Ever Ready 250PB
Tuesday - Gem Jr. with the big, fat, black, bakelite handle w/ Treville Daxer
Wednesday - Gem MM Clog Pruf w/ Vulfix 404 - The Grosvenor badger/boar mix
Thursday - Ever Ready 1912 w/ Vulfix 406 - The Burlington
Friday - Gem Jr. Lather Catcher w/ 24mm silvertip set in Red Mallee Burl

If I had to pick one razor to use every day, it would be hard to decide between the Gem MM OC or the Lather Catcher. Both give fantastic shaves; close, comfortable and BBS almost every shave.

If you something a little milder, the Push Button or the Clog Pruf fill the bill and then some. These are razors that will get you BBS more often than not, and not take a lot of effort to do so.

I'm not a big fan of the 1912 style head found on the Ever Ready and the Gem Jr. with the bakelite handle. I can get darn near BBS results, just the trip getting there isn't the most comfortable.

All in all it was a fun week. I'll have to do it again sometime soon.

BTW, Steve, is that Foxy razor a 1910, or what?? It's one thing to say, "There have been no earth-shattering advances in razor technology in the last 5 years..." But to look at that Lather-Catcher, and realize, mankind hasn't been able to improve on that razor in over a HUNDRED YEARS !!! Not even make a prettier razor, muchless a better shaver...Unbelievable...

Well, they're not better...but at least we have Injectors and A few Gillettes and Rolls...etc...to give us a little variety, and there have been a few lookers aswell as a great shavers...but I haven't seen anything from the last 50 years that I would put in that catagory...:happy102

I just thankful that all the above mentioned razors were built so well that we still have them around to enrich our quality of life....and shaves...

It was made in West Germany, so it goes back a few years. I found it in an antique store. Still has the original knot. Nothing fancy about the handle, as far as material goes. I pretty sure it's just plastic, but solid. It's not a bad brush. I'll get some close-ups of it with the Lather catcher pics Lloyd is requesting.

Alright guys and gals...I think on the whole most of the DE blades are averaging in the 3 shaves per blade ball-park....So how many shaves are yawl getting from your favorite Injector Blades and SE blades ????

I used to think a week was average for injector blades, so I've been tossing then after Day6...But now I'm thinking I might be a bit hasty as I haven't felt tug or pull #1 yet, since January... I might be depriving my combo the opportunity to be all it can be...)

As you know, Sundays are my SE days. I put a fresh one on the first Sunday of the month, then toss it after the last Sunday's shave. I know I could get more because in months with 5 Sundays I still get a comfortable shave. A fresh blade the first Sunday is just easier to remember to change out.

I also just went 5 days with my week of SEs. By the way, that's five 3-pass shaves.

I've stopped relying on what other people give for blade life, except as a first estimate.

That said, and leaving "vintage" injector blades out of consideration, I can pretty much rely on 8-10 shaves from the various Personna rebrands, and 10-12 from the modern Schicks. That's typically two complete passes and one partial one. I shave every day, so it's not like hacking through major undergrowth, but one day's growth is still thick enough.

I'll keep using the same blade until it gives out just so I can see how long it will last. Most of the time I change blades in my DEs just to try a different brand / blade, with the lack of variety in injector blades, I won't have that temptation.

Just got done with the Gem Contour II and a Gem Blue Star blade. What a nice shave. It was a little on the mild side, but other than getting used to new angles, it was a nearly effortless transition! I'm definitely looking forward to trying other SE razors now. Is the 1912 style w/ the chain link handle a decent shaver? I really like how it looks, so maybe It'll be my next SE. If only learning the Str8 was as easy as the injector and Gem!!:ashamed001

So I found out the hard way that the Gem Blue Star will still rust in alcohol. I accidentally left my Contour II in my alcohol tank for 3 days. Had to toss the blade and the alcohol but the razor cleaned up just fine.
