I've been growing a beard for the last year or so, and it sort of migrated into a bit of a neck beard when I wasn't looking. So, last night, I trimmed everything to a respectable length with the electric trimmers (had a little mishap, forgot to check the setting and sheered off a good chunk on one side, but after careful trimming, it turned out pretty decent.) Then, I proceeded to put razor to neck for the first time in a long time. Here's the kit I used: Some experimental tallow soap that was gifted to me--I've lost the label, so I'm not sure what the scent was and for the life of me I can't remember who made the soap. Burma Shave brush 1930's Empire DE Derby blade Blue Stratos AS (I've got half a bottle circa 1980--I've been saving it for a special occasion--1st shave in nearly a year counts, right?)

SoS May 17 Prep:Hot Water splashed on face followed by Proraso preshave cream Razor:Boker Vintage razor Good as Gold early 1900's SC: Vasmol Brush: Vulfix badger hair Aftershave: Superior 70 Bay Rum This razor came in yesterday afternoon and I straightaway got down to cleaning it; I spent two hours in the cleaning process; it was very tarnished and had a couple of rust spots, it was also dull so much so that it glided over harm hair without even cutting one of 'em. I honed the razor setting the bevel on a 1K Naniwa and continued with a progression of 3K,5K,8K and 10K to polish the bevel. One hour into cleaning process:
Razor: J Allen & sons, Sheffield Soap: Wilkinson Sword Brush: Bestshave #8 for the head, and a #6 for the face AS: Osage Rub I hadn't had a head shave in around 7 days, so instead of opting for the clippers first. I decided to mow it down old school, with this old Sheffield steel wedge. I generally only shave the top and sides with a str8. I usually shave the back of my head with a d/e. But today I just let it rock n roll. Took a little longer, and it felt odd shaving blind, but the results were good. NO CUTS and NO weepers. 2 passes on the noggin and 3 on the mug and the reward was a DFS. The hair was just wiped away today.
Tuesday, May 17th Razor: iKon Prototype Blade: Super Iridium Brush: Simpson Douglas Pre-Shave: Musgo Real Glyce Lime Soap: La Toja Shave Soap Bowl A/S: Trumper Marlborough Greg from iKon razors sent me an iKon prototype to try out and it delivered. Because this razor has not yet been released, I am not sure how much information Greg wants me to reveal. So...I'll be cagey and not give up much information other than to say it is made from stainless steel, it is not the razor inspired by PILS and, it delivered an outstanding shave. :shocked003 I am looking forward to the release of this razor as it is sure to be popular.
