I just have to give my vote for the TSD Blue Juniper. Its like walking through a forest, definitely one of my favorite scents so far.
I think that Crabtree & Evelyn’s Nomad shave soap is the best bargain for a high quality tripple milled soap out there. A refill puck can be had for about $8.00. I order mine on line for $7.20 a puck at P.C. Fallon CO.
Provence de Sante Verlaine from Amazon. $10 per puck, but qualifies for free shipping so reloading with three pucks costs $30, delivered. Top shelf quality, three pucks of 3.5 ounces (10.5 oz total) for $30 delivered. Compare that to just about any other premium soap, not drug store stuff. I think you will find it hard to beat.
Think i might as well add this to the discussion. You could also get williams or some other cheap soap and make a super lather. This way you can get it for cheap williams for 1.75ish. And what ever cream you like the scent of or works well. It is pretty cheap and can have a small amount of variety while still getting great shaves for a good price.
Col. Conk Amber is a good soap and has a somewhat darker scent that you may enjoy. $3-5 online and in some stores like John T's.
I gave a vote for ARKO, but here's another idea you might wish to persue. Any of the VanderHagen pucks are available at Wal/Mart or CVS, and Walgreens for a minimal amount of around $2.00. They lather up for me when I use them just dandy.
Another vote here for Arko, once i will have finish all the creams i have, around 25, i will stick to Arko stick for shaving, at 1$ the soap, it's pretty hard to beat.
I feel like some people are answering with what's CHEAP. If you're talking bang for buck, assuming you're talking quality, scent, overall efficacy, as much as I don't use it, i'll put my vote in for Tabac. I'll be damned the day I finish a puck.
I have yet to finish a soap puck and I've been wet shaving since last November. I threw out My Col Conk's Bay Rum soap because I couldn't smell the scent any more. I've barely made a dent into the Edwin Jagger Sandalwood soap. It smells great, lathers well, and protects my face. i think I paid $8.00 for it. my vote for best bang for your buck is VDH soap. the scent is growing on me and it does everything the Jagger soap does but for far less money.
Another Arko vote here. At $2 a stick its bang for the buck is hard to beat. However, Tabac, TOBS, MWF and many other moderate priced 4oz pucks (including TSD) last so long and perform so well their bang for the buck may not be that not far behind.
I must agree. I would have to say some of the better soaps might be worth the extra money. They last so long anyways why do you need to skimp a bit to get a posibly better shave. Or at least maybe more enjoyable. I know i enjoy using TOBS better than a puck of williams or arko. But costs more than double.
Ive never tired Arko but Id vote for TSD soaps and soaps from Chelsea's soap garden (ebay vendor) and VDH. All are great soaps and will last forever in a rotation or minimal use at alternate den sights. I get a great woodsy scent out TSD cedarwood and Id bet that the sandlewood is just as awesome.
A second for L'Occitane Cade, $10 for a puck of triple milled soap that is going to last and last. Cade is my number 1 favorite scent, although there is no EdT or Edp available in it The Aftershave balm is great also. Also at the top of my list is Pre de Provence, it's listed as a sage scent, but to me smells a bit more like a soft white cedar... Also triple milled, high shea butter content, very moisturizing. I think it's about $15 +/- for a large puck in a metal screw-top container.
