Got to say even this one will have me lining up... One side an open-comb, the other side a solid bar. Notice the head also covers the full blade so no blade end-tabs to nick your ear. This is an engineering prototype of the iKon OSS. The finish on this prototype is not what the finish will be on the production version. Full review here.
hmmm But are you supposed to use both sides per shave? Or just use one side till dull then switch to oc? Or switch for different passes? So many possibilities.
However you feel is most comfortable for you. I see it as using the open comb side for the first pass to comb up and mow down the long stuff then using the solid bar side for the second or more pass/es.
That is what i think would work the best. Hmm this is pretty interesting now only if my list of razors to try would stop growing...
Possibly... It seems to me that could use and adjustable. If that's what your going for because if you prefer OC then you get a OC or if you prefer bar you get a bar. But it is still a neat concept. I have yet to use a OC... Could be good for my thick beard though.
I'm afraid this design isn't blowing my hair back at all. I do want to get a nice OC at some point though. Now that Muhle is putting out their new design this month, I'm hoping EJ adopts it as well.
Not a fan of it. For the sake of him and his customers, I hope the machining is much better then the previous model. I tried to like his last razor, but the uneven blade gap and sub-par machining on the head made it next to impossible. Also over the course of a month, the price went from $58 shipped to $125 plus shipping. I would have been livid if I paid $125 for one of those razors. I'm willing to guess that the samples sent to vendors/reviewers have a much higher level of quality control. I'll definitely take a pass.
As the saying goes, don't shoot the messenger... As I understand it, these are going to be poured cast rather than cut from a block of metal as he has done with his other razors. Personally, I'm waiting for his stainless adjustable. It's supposed to work similar to the French-made Gibbs adjustable razors.
I can't say that this design even makes a ping on my RAD radar. And yet, for all the complaints about the QC of the older razors, I still wish I had gotten one when I could. All I managed to get was a handle. I really like my extended tech handle. Maybe I should try to get more iKon handles.... Nobody complains about them being too mild or uneven QC.
Not shooting the messenger. I'm just relaying my personal experience with some of his previous product. It wasn't meant as a disparaging comment towards you at all. I really did like the previous handle I got from him. It had a nice heft and plenty of grip to it. I would probably purchase another one of his bulldog handles if they were available. The razor head, no thanks. I really tried to like it. In the end, no matter how much lipstick you put on a pig, it's still a pig.
Thanks for posting the info Jody, but I gotta say: :sihns011 I never subscribed to the multiple razors per shave idea, if this is what he is after with this idea.
Dale, I'm totally with you on this. I have #43 of his OC Bulldog at 58 bucks. I Love the Look of this razor. But I can not dial it in for a good shave.(blade gaps uneven) I think Greg is a good guy and I'd Love to support his razors. But so far his razors haven't lived up to the hype or cost. So I'll have to pass until his QC improves. Maybe this one will be different?
Sorry Dale, I wasn't directing that specifically at you... just everyone in general. I know Greg/iKon has a bad rep and people groan when they see new threads about his razors but I've dealt with him before, having sold him some razors and have found him to be a nice guy. So it was just a general statement that here, I'm presenting his latest, now talk amongst yourselves. :happy102
He sent one to leisureguy he has been talking about them on his blog and over at pogo doubt, Ill ever buy one they seem a bit pricey and im happy with my ej89 open comb dont see a reason for a bar and next razor will probally be a slant and/or mergress (yes I know the mergress will cost about the same ,,,, but its adjustable and seem like it gets more love from owners vs a ikon ,I could be wrong ) I do wish someone like his company would do a higher end shavette that take de blades that would be cool
Yeah, the review link in my original post is to leisureguy's blog. leisureguy is a nice guy and I've found him to be pretty fair and balanced in his reviews.
Wow, what rock have I been under. This is the first time I've heard about QC issues with IKON razors. I never got one because I didn't think they were worth what he charged. I always wondered why they were a banned topic across the street.
I don't think they were banned because of QC issues. I think they were banned for not following vendor rules. But then again it's not hard to get banned over there.. for anything.
