Well, after reading a lot about the Wee Scott on different forums, I ordered one last week. That thing is tiny! When I first saw it, I thought it was more of a toy than serious shaving gear. This morning, I went ahead and gave it a hot soak and loaded it up with some Cella's and was I ever surprised! I think I'm in love!
I've had one in the travel kit for about a year. It's a small little brush, but works pretty well. I'm not sure why I don't use it more then I do. I've just been enjoying larger brushes recently. The one thing I notice when using it is that I have to keep dipping it in water as it really doesn't hold much. It definitely holds enough lather for my 2 pass shave. I wouldn't want one as my only brush, but it's definitely nice to have in rotation. Enjoy.
This is yet another brush that I'm dying to try. I'll pick one up eventually, but I've been gravitating more toward large knots lately. Glad your enjoying yours.
Mine is on the shelf - unused. For some reason I haven't brought myself to use it. Perhaps I just enjoy its pristine condition.
Every now and then I get the urge to buy the Wee Scott. I have a small butterscotch travel simpson that is similar in size but none the less I'd like the wee scott. Than again, I don't use the travel brush often, so do I really need it...
I've had one for a few months and it's perfect for my everyday one-pass shaves. It holds enough lather for at least two passes. I also like the pinpoint accuracy with which I can apply lather just where it's needed.
Any similar knot to the Wee scott available from TGN ? I have a small vintage brush in need of a small knot.
It is positively shocking in stature when you first set eyes on one - but it is a good brush that I find time to use on a regular basis. The good news is the bad news on this one though I find: it can't hold any "extra" lather for the fifth/ touch up passes. Bad if you are wanting to burn through soaps quicker, good if you want to conserve some. Seriously though it just can't make & hold 4+ passes worth of lather, at least on Great Lakes' water ..
Forgive me, but you actually do five passes plus a touch up? I thought I was doing more than most at three plus.
Forgiven of course To get a shave a shave acceptable to me, takes 4 passes + clean up. BBS is another level
How does the size of the Wee Scot compare with the Omega 10029 Baby-Pro ?? I love the accuracy of the smaller brushes...If I do more than 3+ I would have a RED NECK no pun intended... Having enough lather for 2+ is all I need with my injector.
The baby pro is a 23mm knot at 50mm loft. The wee scot is a 14mm knot with about 30mm of loft if I remember correctly. It's considerably larger. The 50068 bambino is closer but still larger at 18mm with a 50mm loft.
I too would love to try a Wee Scot but I enjoy larger brushes so I have yet to buy one. Maybe I should bite the bullet and "jump in".
The wee scott is tiny, like everyone else has mentioned. Even after reading up on it, when mine I arrived, I laughed. Sorry size does matter. Size aside, it is a very good brush, very dense and firm. It feels denser than the Berkley 46 that I have. Holding lather is not a concern of mine, I face lather, so if I need more soap or cream, I just rub some on my face. I don't think its that big of a deal, but thats me. The dimensions listed on some vendors site list the following (nominal) height 67 mm (2.64 inches) about the length of your pinky loft 36 mm (1.42 inches) knot 14 mm (0.55 inches) all dimensions rounded to two decimal places. Here is a picture with a dollar bill for comparison. This has been a solid performer for me soap or cream, and it fits in a tiny pill bottle. I have used it for a travel and home brush for a couple fo months. Its mostly a travel brush right now, as I have the Berkley 46 for home use, and I'm loving the larger brush at this point. Below is the picture from this mornings SOD.
The Simmons Case works great as an everyday brush and also a Traveler. It is probably one of the best values available IMHO. The knot is around 18-19.
I've been wanting a WS for some time now, but I can wait. I have a buddy who has a beard and wants a small brush for the little he shaves. The first WS I find used he gets. He's wary of a brush that small, but I figure it'll work fantastic for him. An alternate brush is my Simpson Special "Best". I check the BR after he uses it to make sure it's still there. OK, so that's an exaggeration, but he does like the brush.
I'm a fan !!! I prefer face lathering and it is very good when used this way ... especially with a shave stick. The pin point accuracy is also a big plus. Matt
I was only ever able to squeak 2 passes out of my Wee Scot. There's only so long you can load a brush before it wont take any more lather. Using the Wee Scot, don't be afraid to reload it with more soap. I had the Wee Scot over a year and used it occasionally at home and while on the road. Once I picked up the Omega Mighty Midget (11047), my tolerance of the WS ended quickly. The Omega is only slightly larger, but could easily be used on a regular basis. It's a mixed boar / badger knot, has a great face feel, holds enough for 3+ passes, is half the price of the Simpson, and has a nice faux horn handle.
