Has there been a bump in membership and traffic here this last 2 weeks?

I guess they don't like hotlinks, Jim.

This happened with one of the knife forums last year. Traffic increased on others while the problems were being fixed. Then when done things got back to normal. I am a Mod on a knife forum and we were hacked. It took a week to get thing right and new security in place. I know what they are going through and what members are going through. I hope the best for them. They have a long road ahead of them. When ever new updates are installed there are problems. Just hope people understand that and are forgiving.

I post this in hopes of relieving some of your worries.

As i've mentioned elsewhere, the new product that wer're moving to was created by the disbanded programmers of vbulletin. Those programmers worked with vbulletin up to the version we are currently running. The company that owned vbulletin was sold, and during that process their core developing staff was fired/or quit. Those people went on to create the software we are moving to. While xenforo is new, it has been written by arguably the most experienced people in the industry.

For those who are curious, about how i'm going about this, the new software has been installed for some time now. I work on it daily to get the graphics where I want them, and to give the software some testing. When I feel it's ready, i'll make a copy of all the important data from this forum and install it to the new. At that point i'll be testing it further, and if i'm happy with the result, i'll reupload a copy of all our data to the new forum and go live. I really don't expect any problems, but if they were to show up, going back to the old forum would take about 3 clicks. The expected downtime will be the time it takes to move the current posts to the new server.

Xenforo will lack a few of the options we have here at it's point of going live. Currently there is no solution for the review section, but I am still looking, and xenforo is still growing. It is my opinion that moving to xenforo is the better choice for us.

What B&B is going through must be extremely stressful for everyone, especially for those trying to fix things, and I sincerely wish them all the best.

I am here looking for some shaving talk also since B&B has been down. I have peeked in here frequently but never registered until now. It must be severely frustrating for them. I hope they can get things together, because I really like the site and the amount of info there.

That being said, I am looking forward to reading and contributing posts here.

And "Hi" btw. I'm one of those newbies that's boosting the membership up around here. ;) Already learning a lot and very excited to have a functioning forum to get my questions answered at.

Although I signed up a while ago, I'm spending more time here now.

Since I'm posting, I will profess my love for TSD products:

Double Iced Lime Aftershave, M-Bomb and unscented Shave Milk.:D

I used to frequent a shooting site, specific to a certain cartridge and rifles associated with it. Sometimes late last fall it was hacked and went down and stayed down I think over six months. It's back up, some of the archive reloading information was preserved and is available but the site is a shadow of its former self.

Both sites are awesome and very welcoming communities and I know once B&B gets their upgrade complete it will be even better than it was before. However, I do appriciate both sites for their similarities as well as their differences you can't argue with the colective wisdom of so many people getting together to share in their love for such an awesome hobby!!!!

When TSD first opened I spent some time here and discovered that I was going through mostly the same material on two sites with a huge (at that time) overlap of members. Since I had to limit my time I simply settled on B&B.

I like the folks over at SMF also, but I found the site to be just a little less intuitive. However, it is a much smaller group and because of the lower post count it is not that much of a problem.

I suspect that things will get back up to speed at B&B soon and then we'll see what happens.

Right now this feels kind of like if your church burned down and the church down the block opens their doors to the members of the burned church.

So a big THANK YOU to The Shave Den for opening their doors to all of us wandering B&B'ers.

Dennis, I am glad to see you over here again.
Sadly the "Clown House" is closed for repairs. I spend most of my time on the "other site" in the "Clown House". I spend more of my shaving discussions over here, so they really do serve different purposes for me.

To all the B&Bers who have joined recently, take a look at this site thoroughly and you will find merits to both sites and you can enjoy both every day!
