Not shave related, but this one I have to show off - Hauled in a Marlin with this one! Technically it should go in last week's haul but I was too busy playing it to snap a shot. I ordered it on January 31 and it was just finished last week. They were shipping it out earlier and someone noticed a "cloudy fingerprint" so they had to send it back for more polishing. Thumbs up for quality control! Ladies and Gennelmen, I give you the Music Man Axis Super Sport: String-thru-body, Quilted maple top in Transluscent Gold, birdseye maple neck with hand wax gunstock oil finish and hand-wound humbuckers. The build quality and craftsmanship on this guitar is amazing, and the neck plays like nothing else out there. A really stunning instrument.
Father's Day! Very Nice! I thought I would show my Father's Day Haul. Nothing shavuing related this year, but that tends to come for birthdays and Christmas. The first is of the Prism Quantum. It is a "smaller" stunt kite meaning the wing span is only 7 feet (the other full-sized ones Prism makes are usually 8). Its wind range is 3-25mph (5-40 kph); comes with 85 foot lines; and is probably the best beginner kite as it has a shock aborbing nose, for when it nose dives into the ground (I have a smaller stunt kite and it tends to do that a lot:happy102). I am excited to get it in the air! (too bad we are having a freak monsoon season...Haven't seen so much rain in a while). This was a family gift from my wife and 2 girls. The second are some shirts for work. The blue one is from my wife and and baby, and the pink striped is from my 2yr old daughter. Her favorite color is pink, so she picked the shirt for me...I love it! (Please forgive the photo quality...they didn't take kindly to resizing) Just thought I would share! Cheers!
I learned the basics on a $20 special. It is at least half the size of the one I just received (if not smaller). I am told the small ones are hard to learn on because of the insane speeds they fly at...but it wasnt too hard for me (but it did nose dive in the ground often at full speed:happy102). That being said all I could do with it was get it in the air and so some loops and figure 8s (none of the flips and spins), but that is about all it is built for. I have been told that the larger kites are really easy to fly and their response time is slower than the small ones, and they don't fly at mach speeds; if you want to learn, to get a brand name kite as they are properly built unlike the cheap no-names. Needless to say, the better the quality, the easier to learn. The one above is the cheapest full-size the company offers, but there are plenty of other good brands out there too. I hope to get it up in the air tonight...if the rain stops...or tomorrow to see how well it flies and handles.
Long day on the road today. Had to waste a bit of time so ended up in an SPCA thrift store, and then an antique store. Courtesy of the SPCA thrift store; 1 bottle of English Leather Lime (MEM version) 1 bottle of Old Spice Burley From the antique store; a Buffalo Nickle bottle of Avon Spicy and a near death experience trying to open what I believe was a Schick Krona with a melted handle and an old blade inside the tray. What can I say? The razor pickins were slim to none today.
You will really love the Quantum - it is very forgiving and easy to learn on. You are right in that it is not fast like the smaller ones but they are fun to fly. My family and I go out to the beach several times a year with our kites and have a blast. I have a Quantum that I purchased two years ago and on one outing I crashed it nose first into a piece of drift wood. It was a weird gust of wind that came up while I was diving the kite planning to swoop it and fly it parallel to the sand. The wind changed and it slammed into the ground. It was more than the shock absorbing nose could handle and the spine shattered into splinters. I called Prism about it and then overnighted an new spine and now she is good as new. The first kite is my little Micron - flys like a bee on steroids. The second is my sons Nexus. The third is my Quantum. and the one in the back is my wife's Macro-ion. Her kite has a 6' wingspan and if the wind is steady at 25 + MPH you have to lean way back to keep from being drug around on the beach. It is a rush to fly! All our kites are made by Prism, with the exception of my first kite which is a Cheetah. (not pictured)
Super Adjustable Was lucky enough to find this last week at 2nd hand store nearby where I work...guy wanted $10 dollars but I told him "Look how badly this thing is coated with soap scum......will you take $5?" Needless to say...best $5 razor ever!!!
Today's antique mall finds $5 each...they all polished up really nice. That's polish residue you may see on some. I've had the OC MM before but no matter how easy I went, it always chewed me up. Will give this one another try. No intro needed...it has earned its august reputation. My fav S.S., tied with the Ranger Tech. TV Special, I believe. Have never shaved with one...will need to take it out for a spin to see if it's any different (probably isn't). $3 for a full pack of Pal blades in a nifty, reloadable dispenser. Blades look pristine; I've gotten decent shaves from worse. I love using old "useless" "junk" blades (I hate waste). The edge of the blade isn't actually serrated - don't know why it looks like it is below!
Having heard so much about it, can you describe it for us who've never seen it? Anything out today it's similar to?
Decided to swing by an antique store today after putting off for so long. I got a Vintage Simpson Brush, Fatboy, 40's Style SS, Flare Tip SS, Milord, and a "The Celebrated" Wade and Butcher Sheffield Straight Razor. I am very familiar with the Gillette Safety Razors however not so much on the Straight and the Brush. Does anyone have some more info on these?
The best $6 I spent today Barely used, nearly brand new shape. Not one nick on the paint. Is it a keeper? Oh yes, it's a keeper.
