....Or is it Menthol Crystals? Anyway, I got some and wanted to know the easiest way to dissolve them into a liquid form. So far I've just taken a small amount and dissolved them in a little water in the bottom of my shave mug before working up my lather. Any tricks to share? I also have some MBomb on order and wondered what is your favorite way to use it?
Well Menthol is soluble in oils and alcohols. It however isn't soluble in water but you can melt it easily. I usually menthoate the whole tub/puck. But others have just powdered and dip finger in and brush it off and lather from there. For M-Bomb you can add drops right to mug/brush and lather up. Or even put in hand with soap/shampoo for a nice tingly shower. So many uses for the wonderful MENTHOL.
The key is heat. Menthol has a low melting point, IIRC about 87 degrees F. So warm tap water is enough to get the change going, but the stuff won't mix with water. What I find is that if you get a bottle of glycerin, you can add about a tablespoon of crystals to it, warm it, and then use it drop by drop as a pretty utilitarian product. Or you can just use your M-Bomb when it arrives, I hear it is amazing juice. Just use the rule of thumb that you can always add more. I have yet to spoil a batch of anything, but I do have a bottle of AS that is almost uncomfortable to use if I've been sweating; pores are good and opened at that point. I forget who said it, but too much menthol is just that. Excellent mantra with regard to menthol. Good luck and enjoy the frosty ride :anifrozen
:anifrozen ....must get some MBomb! Not until recently have a become a big fan of menthol, but I want some with just about every shave now.
I'm going to be trying out my MBomb in the morning! I've noticed that when I melt the crystals in hot water it looks kinda like an oily film on top. I've also noticed that it seems to take a little more soap to get up a good lather. Anyone else notice that?
