So I had this seals puck of Kent soap for more than a year. This day was a sad day and I needed something for my ego, so I tried the MWF in a dark oak bowl from Connaughtshaving, fits damn good and saves a few bucks.I took my pure badger brush and cool water, as I know I needed them to pick more soap and not destroy the lanolin. I think there must be a quality control issue, everyone complains the lather is quite different everytime, and someone says it lathers tons of it easily, others say they cannot even get lather. There is no other explanation...Fortunately, my puck lathered instantly with flashy white lather, colored like a camera flash.I noticed it was soft, but when I put soap on my face...OMG man...so soft, like a goose feather pillow, even more...Adding water by the drops on the dry soapy face is recommended, but work it at least 2 minutes everytime and you need dozens of swirls everytime. It sure takes 3x longer, compared to other soaps. It does not dry.I have an oily skin and I do not cushion, moisturizing and lubrication. For people with dry skin, MWF would be like heaven. It looks it will last quite long, it is cheaper than most overrated high-end soaps like AOS (Valobra in a wolf/sheep skin), and has a classic scent like very expensive cologne for a true gentleman.Arko and Speick deliver thicker lather more easily, though.I believe there is a secret ratio for the water, hit it once - and you have one of the best soaps on Earth (most of us have it anyway, a huge collection of soaps and creams).I have no problem taking longer to shave, it adds for the fetish and pleasant experience, as I must wait for 3 days to shave. So, do not be lazy and lather, even if it takes 3x more time than other soaps, IMHO, and YMMV.
MWF is very sensitive to how hard your water is, if people are having trouble lathering it, it is be ause of that not quality control. A few other thongs I would like to point out is not cold water, use warm water, when I bought mi e the vendor said no water over 47 degrees Celsius. I do not believe MWF is scented at all, although there are threads saying it is scented I have come across more saying it is un-scented and personal experience also tells me that, as for the loading, all I can say is it's a hard soap unless kept moist, keep it in a sealed container and make sure it stays moist and it will take a little less time to load your brush. The final thing to I have to say about what you said is the soap is not for everyone, there are a large amount of people that get skin irritations from the lanolin. I personally use this soap every 2-3 days because if I don't I get acne breakouts (this soap is the only thong that helps me with it) and I can expect to get a few years out of it, most people say that using it every day just on your beard will make it last about 12 months.
It definitely has a scent. I also find MWF lathers just as easy as any other soap, except with one brush of mine. For reasons I cannot explain, when I use my Omega boar the lather just dissapears after a couple minutes.
I find MWF odd in that it looks like foam and yet with some work once the brush is loaded it lathers just fine.
I LOVE this soap! It's probably the best I have. But as mentioned, it isn't for everyone. I remember telling my brother about how nice it was and how great it felt. he simply replied saying that it burned his face everytime he tried it.
Ya there are a group of people who can't use it. But that happens with other soaps as well. I find MWF to be picky on who it will let lather her up and such . I love it and enjoy the mild scent.
It doesn't like my Omega's either. I can lather up and do my first pass, then when I'm ready for my second pass the brush is empty.
MWF face lathers just fine for me with cool water using any brush from the $9 Shea to my RV Shavemac D01 2-band flattop.
me too. Although I typically use warm water, but I don't have any problems lathering the Fat. Great soap for me.
MWF is one of my favorites. Other than the great performance, I also like that it doesn't have a strong scent making it great to make superlather.
I used MWF my CH2, the extreme density of the brush excels with this soap, so far its made the thickest lather out of the soap. It seems like the extreme density doesn't allow over aerating of the lather, which is the main issue with the soap, its easy to make a giant pile of suds if you don't know what you're doing.
i used my kent (aka MWF) soap today lathered up geat no probs at all, (i did do a lot of reading up on it first) smelt great. soap- kent(mwf) razor- 1951 super speed blades- derby brush- tobs pure badger was my best shave todate with the 51ss, was using L'OCCITANE cade soap before it did work well with the merkur 34 hd but not so great with the 51ss prob just used to the merkur.
MWF is moving up on my list rather fast, pass 2 and 3 make for the best lather. If the first pass on my face was as rich as the last two, I would knock Trumpers Almond off its pedestal.....
Can MWF be melted or grated into my own container? I am thinking of ordering a refill puck (as much as I'd like the wood/ceramic bowl) for $10 shipped, I can do without it. I have some extra TOBS containers and will put it in one of those if it can be mashed into place. Thanks
DO NOT TRY AND MELT!! Just won't work; it won't melt. You can grate it, though. I know many folks have.
THANKS! If I end up buying and it's loose in my container (which I'm assuming it will be), I'll grate and mash it. I'm guessing it's only the "Glycerine" base soaps that can be melted and reformed....I've done it with Ogallalla Bay Rum/Orange no problem.
