    My thoughts exactly.

Deffo not worth more than $20.00 at the most IMO. I have bought them for $5.00 and given them away.

That price is insane...I can't believe 2 people wanted it that badly...

I don't really suspect shill bidding on that one, but if it was, the "winner" really should have known better than to fall for it. This started at $13.40 including US postage, so it was all two inexperienced eBayers going crazy. Fifty-two bids for crying out loud.

Trouble is, that for people who are new to vintage razors, there are a lot of shiny things out there which look like they should be valuable antiques. People need to do some reading, maybe search past eBay auctions, ask questions on forums like this one before they bid on anything (no links to live auctions, of course), or pick it up at the local antique store.

Hopefully the winner will eventually realize he paid too much, learn from it, and move on. At least he does have a nice razor now.

Ridiculous price even if it had the correct case, blade cartridge, instructions and was mint. My set is and was considerably less. Now when a seller has a blue tip for sale he'll use this sale as a basis for his bin or starting price.

    Very True

I could not agree more! The people here are so knowledgeable and so willing to share that it is insane to plop that kind of money down for something Shiny!

That doesn't make any sense; several of the bidders in the earlier bids had a lot of purchases and most were shaving related.

 Whoever bought that sure had more money to blow then I do for just one razor. I don't know if all of my vintage and new together were that much! Crazy.

    so crazy

I know im a newbie, but that is crazy money, but i have sold a few things on ebay and got way more than i expected and way more than what the item was worth.
example i bought an old chess board at a carboot sale for £2.50, ok con, no branding or logo fairly plain, sold for £31.

I have a rule re ebay i always have a max price when im watching something when it gets very close to that price i unwatch it so i dont get carried away with the bidding.

I try to avoid the trends. Hopefully the buyer is happy.

I bought a minty NOS blue tip for $44.50 in December. Now, I know inflation can't be THAT bad... $120 is minty fatboy territory. Hell, I've seen near-mint 50s executives go for that price.

Out of the 52 bids, there were only 5 bidders. 1 in particular A member less than 30 days with only 11 purchases or sells, the other had 51 purchases or sells. Not a lot of experience in there. The 3 left, quit after $29.00.

I gave $1 for a sealed (boxed) bottle of 1972 Monster brand kids vitamins. Had no idea what to expect when I put it on...$10 to a collector, maybe. I got $300 in a bidding war the like of which I'd not seen before, with the usual early offers BEGGING me to part with it for $50, the usual foolishness.

But that was before I started DE...since then I've seen worse.
