What, if anything, do you apply to your head after shaving? I've tried Head Lube, but I don't like it much. It doesn't seem to soak in very well. Lately I've been using a very light application of Aqua Velva. If you want to feel alive, just splash some Aqua Velva on your freshly shaven noggin. I actually like that quite a bit, though it is rather tingly. I don't have the nerve to try Pinaud Bay Rum, though.
As long as you're pointing Bob to ClassicShaving, it might also be noted they comment on their site that the Feather "Kanwa" (Aftershave Balm) is a favorite amongst headshavers.
if you want something that moisturizes well, doesnt cost a bundle, and smells alright... try the "Afta" aftershave lotion... the smell is rather unique, some like it some dont... but regardless, its a very good moisturizer for your scalp... and it doesnt burn too much... i used a headblade and have gotten mixed results from the headslick shave cream, im not so sure their liquid products are much to marvel at... another thing you can do, get some hot six oil from somewhere, its in the ethnic section... lol its an all natural oil mixture you can use as a pre lube... some people say it works, i will admit... irritation decreased a little for me...
Water and Headlube are all that I use now. Occasionally, especially in the winter, I'll use Hot Six Oil but that tends to me a bit heavy in the warmer months. Did you try the 'matte' or 'glossy' Headlube?
sounds like he used the glossy... glossy is supposed to stay on top and leave extra shine... thus, its not going to soak in... all headlube is, is a post-shave moisturizer... i dont think it should be used in place of a real aftershave... and as for hot six oil being heavy, i always shower after i shave, and leave no residuals... i only use it as an under coating for the razor to glide on... the best thing for your scalp especially if its burning frequently after you shave, is to use a mild lotion...something WITH alchohol, but not too much of it... as stated above, witch hazel is another good option... but the cheap stuff stinks like rotten ass.. lol only for a few seconds though... then its pretty much odorless... but you will feel the alchohol properties, and it does a great job of healing up skin, and preventing bumps.
I usually don't do anything because my skin generates oils naturally. I'll shower after I shave. However, if I do use anything it'll be one of two things: Thayer's Witch Hazel w/Aloe or Neutrogena's Razor Defense Face Lotion (smell great too!). If I put it on my head I put it on my face too. John
For me, irritation isn't really an issue. I just try to replenish the moisture using a non-greasy moisturizing gel. There is one called Bald Guyz moisture gel available at your local drug that seems to work for me as well as anything else I've tried at any price point. I work outside so on top of that I use either Peter Thomas Roth or Zirh sunblock. Works for me. (12 years slick!)
I'm hooked on a shot of Hydrolast Finishing Balm (before I even step out of the shower), a generous spray of Hydrolast tonic (lime), and post-shave conditioner (sandalwood). I shave in the shower (still using cartridge for head-shaving) using Method Shaving's cutting serum (bit of slag from the cube, some paste, and a shot or two of finishing balm)--it's similar in consistency to HeadSlick, but works much better for me. Cheers, j
Depending on the season, Winter post shave, Alum bloc and 100% Aloe Vera gel as a moisturizer. All other seasons post shave Witch Hazel..Thayers or Dickinson's plus a drop or two of pure glycerin. If I am outside for extended periods a light coating of Hawaiian tropic SPF40+. Kind regards,
I use a non-comenogenic (sp?) lotion from the Body Shop because the shave dries out my skin. I got a nice almond smell.
After I shave my head here's what I do: Warm rinse Rub Crystal deodorant all over (alum block) Warm rinse Cetaphil cleanser Cold rinse Then I usually wait a while and apply some HeadLube Matte, Burt's Bees or Nivea Extreme.
I don't ever have a problem with my scalp being either too dry or too oily, so I typically just use the Head Lube matte to keep the shine down.
