then, get home to warm house, finding that the FRIGGIN' A/C UNIT ISN'T WORKING, YET A #@%#$GAIN

Heh heh heh... that's the way to get 'em.

In an unrelated note, adblocker is killing my eidtor controls on the den, suddenly. Also, I seem to have this weird issue where when I post a link, It won't drop the "insert link" box until I click off of it. Also, check out the first letter in this paragraph. Strange, huh?

    Update time:
okay, first, car window - worked again this morning, wasn't working at lunch....weird

A/C issue: let's see, where to start...so, I got home, and noticed all the clocks on the devices were blinking - great, power outage I say to myself. Well, first things first, to the bathroom, and on the way there turn the thermostat down to cool it off, maybe the power outage did something to it. About 20 minutes later, I notice the house is not any cooler, so I go look at the t'stat, it's down on 65. Oh great...and now we're up to speed of yesterday's rant (sorry 'bout that, ya'll - in spite of earthquakes, hurricanes, political unrest and such going on in the world, and I'm complaining because my butt's sweating...).
Well, at this point I decided to just turn the unit off completely, save some electricity...on the side of the thermostat, where you have the options Heat, Cool, and Off, I move the selector switch to the Off position... and the hall lights turn off.........What. In. The. Heckes. !?!?!
Okay, obviously some other issue is going on. I turn the unit back on and the lights come back on.
Check the breakers, flip the breakers for the A/C unit (one for the outside unit, the other for inside), and on both cycles, the light in the utility room goes off, too.....sheesh, maybe it's me, maybe I have a new superpower? Call me Super I'llScrewUpYourHouse Man or something.
Anyhoo, I grab my phone and call my brother in law, he's an electrician for the highway department, not really intending on him looking at it, just wanted to throw a mystery his way before I call the power company. Well, he's busy with his son's football practice, so while I wait, I start taking care of the daily necessities. He calls back, and wants to see it for himself.
We start going through all the other stuff, and he's as perplexed as I am. We go to the breaker panel, he gets his multimeter and checks the incoming voltage - 118 on one leg, 98 on the other when checked individually....obviously, there's a problem. Checks both together, to see how much of the total 240 I'm supposed to be getting...28 volts! Serious problem - I'm now telling my wife to the things together to go stay at my parents for the evening.
My BiL calls a coworker with more experience, and we come to the same conclusion, gotta be the meter. BiL goes and wiggles the meter, suddenly all the lights come on full power, AC starts working, everything is great...for about 30 seconds.
BiL's coworker calls his good friend, who works for the power company, and he's over in about 10 minutes (thank goodness for connections...get it? electricians? connections? okay, it's funny to me), takes the meter out, and realize the problem is in the box, not the meter, so it's going to basically be free to fix, thankfully, and he did some things for the short term meanwhile so that everything will work properly.
So, about 11:00 finally go in to a cool(er) house, and get to unwind from hectic day, which has truly been hectic today, too, but I needed to vent a little.

TL;DR: Be sure to drink your Ovaltine (or something)

WOW sounds like a fun day you had :).

At least you got it all fixed. Connection are very useful for electricity and to get things done :).

Don't know if this has been posted elsewhere, but I felt I should probably drop a shaving related link, you know, for old time's sake.

Also, Jim, sorry you had such fun this evening. I've been grumbling about work all week, but it sounds like you've been dumped on majorly lately. Hopefully things will smooth out soon. If it makes you feel any better, the storm this evening knocked out our tv antenna, so we can't get any of the local stations until I get on the roof and check things out--Which means TWGW will have to miss Bonanza and Rawhide tomorrow. Horror of horrors.

Also, this happened. That's a good thing, right?

Saw this on Reddit. I couldn't help but throw just a bit of shaveden love into the comments, along with some shameless self-promotion and hyping the UAASCCSA thread.

Haha that is pretty true... just wait until he spends way more on soap and creams than he wanted to :). I know I have 5+ years of creams and soaps probably. Especially with my SOTQ subscription.

Woke up today and it looked great out. After a tornado there was great weather the calm after the storm? A bit damp but not much wind or anything. A nice bike ride to work for my second last day here... then off to accounting schoolz

I would rather be at home. My wife got called to go into the doctor's today after having some tests done, so I would rather be with her than at work. I hope everything is ok.
I'm preparing for the CMA entrance exam. Man is it ever a stresser. So far teh only good thing about it is my wife telling me that when I finish the exam, I can buy myself a razor, etc, as a treat for surviving it. Good luck with your studies! (Consolidation is a pain! If you ever understand it and like it...I think you'll be one in a million ;) )

Hope your wife is ok. My GF had two biopsies done two weeks ago... so that is not good.

I am going for my CA exam... WOOO. I know if I pass I will be buying me a razor and a HUGE supply of blades and or creams. Consolidation from what I have gotten so far hasn't been horrid. I am just not enjoying the Auditing and Taxation courses :(. That stuff is pretty boring and dry (sort of like most of accounting :)) I actually don't mind it. I have ther personality to make it work and survive the day without killing myself :).

So far my day has started poorly. Didn't get much sleep thanks to the storms that rolled through upstate NY last night, and consequently I've awoken groggy and unmotivated. I need to write a 25-page paper that's due next week and it isn't getting done today!

This weekend, on the other hand, has been in the books for weeks. I'm heading up to northern Ontario to spend the weekend with friends from grad school as a "pre-school year resumption get-together". Gonna be fun!

COOOL. where are you heading to? I have similar plans this weekend... not sure if going camping or cottage or what. But something before hitting the books again all while working :(

    * That's pretty cool

    * Well, I'm grumbling over 1st world issues...again. They're all minor things, but when they pile up all at once, it's a giant monster....kinda like if the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man was made up of billions of small marshmallows, instead of 5 or 6 large ones...

    * I don't think there will be any immediate issues with them, and probably not any long term things either...then again, visionaries like him don't come along often, so once the current stock of ideas and visions run out, they may start going downhill

    Awesome news!
Yeah, the thing is, it's likely his pancreatic cancer that's causing him to step down. It kind of gives this sense that he won't be with us much longer. I wouldn't wish that crap on anyone, and I hope he's okay, but I can't say that I'm sad to see him step back from the apple limelight for a while.
