Thoughts and prayers to any of our members and their families who are expected to be in the path of Hurricane Irene. Stay safe, and please check in with us all when you can.
Hope all is well and it doesn't hit too hard. Last thing i read was it is going to be category 3 and 2... but not much of a 3 which is good. However still very dangerous I hope everybody stays safe an no one gets hurt.
Yeah, fere shere Ya'll. I have been tasked all week with watching her progress and email blasting everyone with updates four times a day!
Absolutely agree with the luck factor. Heed the warnings and get out of town if at all possible. If you can't, get the supplies, like they advise. Trust me, it isn't ANY fun living without power for days on end! My best thoughts are with all of the east coasters. As they say, HUNKER down!
I have no choice but to travel to Florida tomorrow, leaving my wife and kids here to fend for themselves.....I'm anxious, scared, and pissed at the same time. Being at the mercy of nature really sucks sometimes.
I'm actually working this weekend. I'm typing this at home, having gotten back an hour ago, but am expected back in at 0800 tomorrow, to relieve someone who will have been there since midnight. I'll be there, if not prevented by flooded roads, downed trees, etc. Yes, it's supposed to hit us here in Connecticut, although usually these storms have calmed down a bit by the time they reach us. Still, there are all sorts of official warnings out there, our (ptui) governor alerting the National Guard, that sort of thing. My sincere best wishes to everyone who is due to catch any part of this. May the remainder be less than is feared.
Well, I made it to Ft. Lauderdale safely. Flight was a bit rough at takeoff but once we got to altitude and left the hurricane crap behind it was smooth sailing. Now for the bad part.....my wife and kids are home riding it out without me. I only hope that they don't have any issue with power, etc. From what the news is showing, it shouldn't be too too bad, but still, I feel so powerless. I only hope that those coastal Carolinians make it out ok....looked pretty tough.
My heart goes out to you and your family, Bob. The stress of not being there is difficult to deal with. I pray they stay safe.
Indeed! I wish everyone is and remains safe and sound through all of this. By the way Sailinblues, I like your style! Great video! He's a favorite of mine.
Its raining to beat the band here now, and the wind has picked up quite a bit. Still, its not supposed to get real bad till late tonight, and early tomorrow in central NJ. We are prepared as best as possible, nothing left to do but wait.
It feels strange being in Florida and just "watching" others enduring the nerve wracking task of riding out the storm, instead of being in the middle of it. Bob, if it helps, I am worrying with you about the loved ones at home. What an emotional roller coaster, knowing you are just a couple hundred miles from here and knowing what is going on at home and the newest grand baby due here tomorrow. Between elation of Tucker's future arrival and worrying about Honey and the oldest grandkids back in Md., I feel like a super ball bouncing in lifes hands. But in my heart I know everything will be all right. Hang in there son.
Off to work in an hour, I guess. The wind sounds like it's picking up. Really would be a nice day just to stay home and read. Oh well.
Well so far it looks like we (lower mid Atlantic states) have been spared any serious destruction. This is the first hurricane to make landfall in NJ in just over a century. We have had 8" of rain so far and about 60mph winds. It's not over yet, but we are the backside of it now. Lots of flooding, road closures, down trees, and a buttload of water in the basement....
Ok, my family is safe and we have no damage, at least nothing crazy, just some downed limbs but NO POWER!!!!! School starts tomorrow, or at least it was going to start tomorrow! Thanks for all of the well wishing. All of you in NY, keep your heads down and I hope it leaves you relatively unscathed. So now, I guess it's Tucker time (for us anyway)!
Glad to hear everyone's making out okay. We made it home from Maine yesterday around 1PM, just as the outer bands were starting to spit on us. All is well this morning. Power stayed on throughout. The rain is gone; wound up with about 7-8 inches. Had a bit of water in the basement, but not as bad as I thought it would be. Just a couple of buckets in the wet-vac. Lots, and I mean LOTS, of flooding in the area. Winds from the backside are picking up a bit. Becky and I are safe, though. Prayers to all who may not have fared so well.
