How many of you remember when medicine cabinets had a slot cut in the back?

OK they use to cut a slot horizontally in bathroom medicine cabinets about 2 inches wide about the center of the cabinet between shelves. If so what is that for? I know! I'm just seeing if some of the kids know? LOL

Mine still has the slot and I use it. Of course, my house was built in 1961 too. ;)

Am I the only one that would look through those blades just to read the brand names?

I'd like to say yes, but I know that many members would be rooting through that pile!!

I remember the slot in the bathroom at my old house. My dad still lives there, and the bathroom has been remodeled, so I'm pretty certain the collection behind the wall is now gone.

I saw a Single edge injector. I use to love them. But you can't dry them very easily or use them for much else.

I very much doubt it. I might even remember to wear my Kevlar gloves so I don't have to get a shot to keep from getting 40 year old tetanus .

Were the blues stainless steel or just heat blued to help with keeping and edge and rust?

I believe they were just blued to help retard rusting.

Yep, our farm house still has it; one day there is going to be a tornado and heaven help us with all of the flying razor blades. Forget hiding in the tub:sick013:

I remember those slots from when I was a kid; I believe at least one house we lived in had one, but at any rate, I would see them occasionally. Without ever being interested enough to check, I kind of assumed that the blades collected in a bin somewhere which could be emptied if you had the secret of where to get to it. It was a little surprising, a couple of years ago, to learn the truth about them just falling in the space between the walls. It just seems so sloppy, somehow. Also, although I'm no recycling fanatic, it seems a bit wasteful to put them beyond the reach of possible salvage for so long.

I did, when I remodeled my bathroom recently.
Yep, same as the ones I found during my remodel.

Luckily, the bathroom had been remodeled previously obviously. There were only about 3 blades, and there was no medicine cabinet, let alone the drop slot.

With wet shaving making a come-back, I wonder if the old fashioned medicine cabinet will also? I wouldn't mind having one installed lol. It would be the ultimate touch for the shaving den.

A few months back I gathered a DE set-up & gave it to my son for his 18th. While showing him how to shave in his bathroom (it was probably only the 3rd time I've been in that bathroom since we bought this house 5 yrs ago) he asked me what to do with the used blades. After my "back when I was young there was a slot" speech...the smart-a$$ opens the cabinet & says "like this one?"

If you use an electric razor like my dad used, it is very difficult to fit it down that slot when it no longer works..:happy102:
