Anybody got an opinion on the Next6 android tablet? It's got 2.1--no access to the official app store according to reviews, but the company is supposedly working to fix that. The specs look pretty good, and it can be had for 149 this sunday according to a big lots ad I got recently.

I know some of you guys are coocoo for android-puffs, so I thought you might be able to proffer a bit of perspective.

until you forced me to Google-fu it, I hadn't heard of it.
right now, you just gotta deem what you want it to do. Reading ebooks, playing some apps, it'll probably be fine. If it doesn't have access to the official app store yet, research and find out if it can connect to the Amazon app store, or Appbrain. Side loading apps is simple, but it's a pain.
I'm pretty much resolved that unless I find a heck of a deal, I'm going to go with one of the new Archos tablets when they get released.
Unless......by the time I have funds to spend on that, the Windows 8 tablet is ready, I may just have to spring for that. It's sounding more and more that Microsoft is going to have the first real Ipad competition out, unless Google gets on the ball to get Ice Cream Sandwich out, and some good hardware. The Samsung Galaxy Tab is tops right now, and from what little I've played with it, it's quite nice, but still not an "Ipad killer".
For a while, I actually considered getting an ipad 1, but all the patent lawsuits, deceptions, and outright lies Apple is pouring out right now (c'mon, you really think anyone with an IQ higher than a fried egg could for even a millisecond confuse the Galaxy Tab with ipad? really?), I'm not giving them a cent. Acting like a bunch of juvenile jackwagons. "Ooh, you're tablet runs on electricity! Ours does too, and it did it first, we're suing you"

Everything I'm reading on Windows 8 is surprising me the praise and reception it's getting. I'm going to try to install the beta on my netbook this weekend and try it out. As much as I like Android, this could get real interesting...

yeah.... Windows 8. Still on XP and it would take a lot to convince me of the need to pay for a new OS. But then again, I was content with DOS in the first place.

Don't worry, we XP people will be forced to switch soon enough.

Don't get me wrong, I still like and use XP. In fact, I'm creating a new image for student machines right now, wiping out Win7 and installing XP.
Main reason, though, is inability to effectively and efficiently create a customized default user profile. Otherwise, I'd stick with 7. I like 7, a lot, but right now in my situation at work, I only feel comfortable with XP, on student workstations at least. I've left 7 on a few teachers workstations, teachers that I know are fairly tech-competent and can learn and use it. Might as well start getting used to it, I guess.
Still, I've heard from several people I know personally, that have already started trying out 8, that it's really great.
Count me in the "I'm fairly surprised" group. One of these guys is a die-hard Apple guy, too, if that tells you something.

I have grown to love XP and hate Vista...I am becoming more of a Linux person myself.

Walking back to my office with my lunch stuff in hand, and a teacher comments on what I'm having. It's the same thing I've had pretty much every day for the last 6 months.

    I immediately thought of this:

Chuck Testa is ruining Reddit. Because, you know, the abusive atheists*, political critics, and scumbags weren't cuttin' it.

*I don't hold all atheists in this regard, just the vocal majority at reddit.
