Menthol Monday 19 September

I don't have any williams soap, and I'm kinda flush with other stuff.
So I respectfully decline to play.

A three pass DFS. I was hoping for a repeat of yesterdays most awesome shave, but it was not to be. Oh well there is always tomorrow.

The main key to Williams as far as I can tell is that it needs a lot of water. I soak the brush, pull it out of the water and go straight to the mug without shaking or wringing the brush and still need a bit of extra water.

This was a beautiful face-freezing shave that I enjoyed so much. The Derbylux cream from Hungary starts off as a mild menthol sensation and gets increasingly stronger with each pass. By the end of the 2nd pass, it is already frigid, and by the 3rd pass you'll have tears in your eyes. The Diana Sport balsam is BRRRRRRRR cold! :biggrin:

I use it differently. I don't soak the brush, I just dip it in the sink a couple times while the basin is filling. I get most of the excess water out before I go to the mug with a near dry brush. I load the brush heavy and then dip the tips of the brush in the sink when I need a little more water. I didn't think it needed an excess of water.

Sorry, No Williams for me. Super max stainless (brown label) have been often referred to in the forums as a blade that can't cut butter. Well, they might not be feather sharp, but it's a very smooth blade. And sharp enough for me. I find that this blade has virtually no tendency to dig in and cause wheepers as many of the sharper blades do. It's a perfect blade for razors that I feel are almost unusable. It's the only blade I can use in this 22r. (with other blades it's a face shredder to me). The Omega midget is one awesome brush well worth the 13 dollar price tag. I actually was quite put off by Omega's after using the 49pro, but if the rest of the Omega's are of the same caliber as the midget, I'll need to re-evaluate my previous position. A true BBS shave delivered from a dull blade in a bad razor. Life is good.

Str8 fever has a tight grip on me and I'm loving it. Every shave is getting better and better. I'm getting better at edging the goat, something that has been difficult to do with accuracy no matter what style of razor I've used.

Monday

Prep: Hot shower, hand strop blade
Coffee: Home roasted, fresh ground Kenya Safari Ridge, BLACK
Soap: Williams + 5 drops TSD M Bomb
Brush: C&E Pure Badger
Razor: Merkur 34G
Blade: ASR Platinum Chrome, day 1, 3+ passes
Post: Cold water rinse, ice water splash (like I needed it any colder after 5 drops of M Bomb ) Osage Rub (colder yet!), Brut Attitude, hand strop blade

Shave Rating: 5 Blades

The Williams lather was a bit thin, but usable. Five drops of the M Bomb killed the Skeeter-Be-Gone smell. I'm going to cut back a drop of M Bomb per day and see if I come to like the smell of the Williams by the end of the week. After all, it did help me get the 5 Blade shave rating.

I'm very much a newbie, so I'm unsure about my technique. Accordingly, take comments with a grain of salt...

I had an ok shave this morning. Had more nicks than usual, but might have been a function of the blade or me rushing a bit.

I soaked the soap in hot water when I showered, dumped out the water, and went to town. I got a lather quickly, but it was pretty thin. I seemed to get better lather with my second pass -- I've found this with Proraso too. I also found the thinnish later didn't stay on my face well -- had to re-lather after application. Don't mind the smell, but wouldn't seek it out either. Seems like there's not as much lubrication/moisturizing as I've found in other products.
