not at all, it all depends on what you're wanting. If you're just going to be reading books, e-ink is the way to go, and looking at the new Kindle lineup, there's several options: $79 Kindle, $99 Kindle Touch, and $149 Kindle Touch with 3G connection, and of course the $199 Kindle Fire

I have the First Nook, personally.....a little miffed they completely dumped the thing, no updates or anything. I do have the 2 year protection plan with accidental damage coverage.

Maybe I should "accidently" smash it and get the new one?

LOL! Yeah, if you have kids, nephews, cousins, or a large dog, let them borrow it for a little bit, tell 'em it's indestructible....of course, with my luck, I would try to destroy something and find out it is, actually, indestructible

I was very tempted by the Nook Color awhile back, when it was finally rooted and made to run vanilla Android OS, but the price seemed high for the specs. The Kindle Fire seems juuuuust right (maybe they should include Goldilocks as a free e-book, just for that reason?)

I got on the eReader bandwagon with the Kobo. I've read many books on it and prefer a basic e-ink reader as I do everything else on my iPhone when I don't have my actual computers. Lately, though, I haven't been reading as much and my Kobo is collecting some dust. I doubt I'll be getting another one anytime soon and I've never been happy with the Kindle being locked to Amazon.

That was one of the reasons I got the nook, but then like you I haven't been reading in a while. Just took a couple days to read the new Dresden files book and that was it.

It's hard for me to find something that interests me to read.

yeah, that's one issue, but I'm okay since I like Amazon, and it will probably work for them...everyone that get an Ipad/pod/etc is locked into Apple stuff, main reason being seamless integration, should work out the same for the Kindle.

That said, I very much prefer more open/more options, which is one of the main reasons Apple won't see any of my money, but since I'm already involved in the Amazon walled garden, as it were, I can deal with it for this device.

I know I'll probably sleep on it a bit and let the initial excitement wear off some and my opinion may change, though I doubt it. This is hitting all the main aspects of what I've been looking for in a tablet, I'm sure some things will come to attention that will take some of the luster off of it, but probably not enough to kill it for me.

For many things on iPad, iPhone, etc you aren't locked into Apple products. You can easily get books from places other than iTunes and you can still buy your music at a B&M store to then add to your device. Kindle lets ZERO other book formats work. Most of the time the book prices are good, which is why most people don't have a problem, but for some reason or another that I'm not even sure of I'm just not an Amazon fan. I think the device is great and if it allowed me to get my books wherever I wanted, then I would most likely be a Kindle owner already.

ah. can't really respond to the books thing, since I don't do a lot of reading. I know I probably should read more, but it's painstakingly slow for me to read and absorb everything. I can read pretty quick, I'm not a slow reader, but I'll forget most of what I just read within minutes. Not fun for me.
But, looking at the Kindle store, looks like there's several places other than Amazon you can get books from, but I understand what you're saying, doesn't look like you can just download a book from memory card or anything, and load it up to it.

I finally finished watching "Hobo with Shotgun" It was bloody, cheesy, and left me quite confused, I'm not sure if I like it or not.

I have put books 0n my kindle from multiple locations other than kindle. The kindle has a poor attempt at a webbrowser. However, it is good enough to get to many sites. You can directly download pdf books or e-books that are formatted for the kindle (a lot of sites have them). When you set up your kindle, you get a special e-mail address. Mail a pdf version to that address and it shows up on your kindle.. It isn't easy, but you aren't locked to using amazon only.

Now my daughter's cruz reader can handle several different book stores with its apps. However, it tanks as a tablet. I wouldn't use it as anything but an e-reader and as an e-reader, I prefer my kindle. But then again, the kindle was a gift. so oh well...

Rainy day. Packing all day to make the big move on Saturday. Looking forward to it. The massive order of shaving stuff will be coming up after the move.

hadn't seen these since elementary school. But dude... how do you cut yourself that badly pushing up on the razor? I guess that is what you get when using canned goo and a crayon.
