Just thought I'd share my new brush with my friends here at The Den. Introducing me new 4292/4 I 23mm Bulb. To be honest, it's a lot smaller that I thought it would be. I'm starting to think I should have went with the 25mm version, but that thing looked crazy big. You may agree, here it is next to my duke 3 in best, and the SR 3824 (my fav, and the brush I use for the measuring stick when comparing brushes). Comparing the bulb characteristics to the Duke 3, there doesn't appear to be a huge size difference. The digital caliper measurements show: Brush/ Knot size/ Loft Thater 25.24 mm 54.33 mm Advertised 23 mm 56 mm SR 3824 26.5 mm 59.57 mm Duke 3 24.58 mm 51.46 mm Now, keep in mind, I'm no machinist/engineer, you may measure them differently, but these are the measurements I came up with. I did apply a couple of coats of clear nail polish to the brushes graphics as like others have said, they don't look to be applied to last. So, it appears to fit in between the Duke and the SR. Steve P.S. It's interesting to note that the instructions/literature that came with the brush advise against face lathering - The only way I lather, LOL. Update: I have to admit, when I first handled the Thater, I had flashbacks to some years ago, when I received my BLK4 (Kent). That brush was a floppy mop, it may have been the most beautiful brush I'd laid eyes upon, but it was unusable (for me). I apologize to all the Kent fans, but that brush was definitely not for me. I'm happy to report, the Thater passed it's maiden shave with flying colors. I used Arko's venerable shave stick, and the Thater whipped up a fantastic lather. Very soft and comfortable, and the lather was plentiful, more so than the Duke 3. I assume this is due to the higher density of the Duke. So, it's definitely a keeper. The most notable characteristic of the Thater, is that it has yet to shed a hair. I mean, there wasn't even a loose hair floating around in the packaging. My last brush, a Shavemac 944, shed an alarming amount of hair its first use, something in the neighborhood of 20. It did calm down, and by the 3rd shave, it was done shedding. Ironically, the 944 was a few bucks dearer than the Thater. So, you do pay a premium price for the Thater, but they obviously pay extra attention to details, like combing out all the errant hairs before shipping...Nothing more disconcerting than to spend a large sum of $ on a brush, and have it shed. Definitely doesn't leave one with a good first impression. Great looking brush! My Thater has yet to loose more than 1 hair and I've had it about 4 months or so. I use mine for my cream rotation which is tomorrow, and I'm looking forward to it.
2nd shave with Das Thater, and I'm a convert. If anyone is on the fence, and this is in fact a limited production run of brushes, I'd say buy it. This may be my favorite brush, relegating my sr 3824 to "runner up" status. Any apprehension I had about it's density quickly disappeared with this brushes performance. The Germans have won me over big time. This brush and Tabac's fantastic shaving soap are quickly becoming my favorite shaving partners. Steve
You're right, it's clearly way too small. It'll never work ... best thing you can do is just get rid of it. I'll PM you my address and you'll have it out of your hair. I've actually been wanting a smaller brush, because I have facial hair and it's harder with a large brush to put the lather exactly where you want it. Looks like you made a good purchase that you'll have to enjoy for a long time to come.
Mine has yet to shed a single hair. And I break all the rules stated in Thaters accompanying literature, as I exclusively face lather. Steve

Hey gang, thanks for the replies. As of late I had been through a few brushes, looking for a worthy companion for the SR 3824. Wound up with a Duke 3 in best, and this Thater. I think I'm good for a while, now. Steve
