Hi guys. I've been trying to pick up a fresh handle that accepts atra blades and ended up ebaying a contour handle with the rubber grip. This is the newer style that isnt all metal. My Dad taught me to shave about 19 years ago with an all metal atra that he still uses daily! I'm wondering if the newer contour has the same head as the Atra? I've heard the Vectra is mostly plastic. Also, how is the schick handle for the atra blades? The black one looks quite nice. Thanks for the help. Ryan

Ryan, Here is an image of the Vector which has the same head as the later Atras. http://www.ecrater.com/p/9427153/gillette-vector-plus-razor-fits
Although I have not held a Contour, it looks to be identical to the Vector (Indian version of the Atra). The Vector I owned was very shoddily built: the head rattled, and it's weighs less than (or equal too) a disposable bic. Not all Gillette Atra handles were metal by the way. Some had a metal head, on a ribbed plastic handle. Anyway, you are much better off tracking down a vintage Atra handle, as the build quality will be much better. The Schick handle should work just fine as well. I owned an Schick handle (made by Omega) that held the Atra blades just fine. It was nearly all plastic though (except for a few accents, and the top of the head), and being hollow didn't weigh very much.
I have a Meng-Shi that has replaced my all metal Atra for normal use. It looks good and shaves well. No build issues or problems.
That's a pretty sweet looking handle. Where did you find it? I have only known Ming Shi to make a TTO razor. Here is a side by side comparison of the Vector (on the left) with an original Atra that has the ribbed plastic handle. This handle may actually predate the all metal handle, as it was a demonstrator unit.
On Ebay. Type in Atra Razor and it should come up fast. The vendor (idiotdoc) has some stock and it is not expensive $10 bin! It is very neutral in terms of balance since the weight is in the center. I like this with vintage Slim Twins!
Hi guys, thanks for the warm welcome!! Its nice to see full blown photos of those razors. The contour I have on order may very well be used just for the spare blade! lol. That Ming shi I've seen on ebay, and it looks quite nice, especially for the price. that may be the one I go to. Thanks for the responses. Ryan
