I'm a fan of the Old Type. Having a nice replated one on a solid handle is a treat. Before I discovered the OCMM and the R41, I used the Old Type almost exclusively. I find the shave to be less aggressive then either the Gillette NEW or R41, but with enough bite to provide a nice close and comfortable shave.

    Shumate 5/8
    EJ Best
    Col. Conk Bay Rum
    Alum Block
    Witch Hazel
    Afta Fresh Balm
    Burberry EDT

The Col. Conk line doesn't get enough respect, because I used to disrespect that line and thought it was rubbish. This soap delivers a great lather and smells terrific the entire shave.

Conk is good stuff. I've had a Conk brush for 10+ years that's been through sort of brush hell and came shining through. I still use it. I know it can stand being frozen, baked, ignored and lathering hotel bar soap and all the freeky soaps my wife used to make for me.:D

    Razor: iKon OSS
    Blade: Gillette Super Thin
    Brush: Thater Porter
    Pre-Shave: Musgo Real Glyce Lime
    Cream: Lavanda (factory fresh)
    A/S: Lavanda Agua Colonia

A fantastic shave! The iKon OSS continues to impress. I decided to try a few new products today and I am glad that I did. The Lavanda shave cream (factory fresh not the NOS stuff) produced an excellent fragrant lather with plenty of slip and glide. The formula includes both lanolin and coconut oil and it left my face feeling smooth and refreshed. The Lavanda Agua Colonia was a great way to finish the shave.

    Brush: TGN Silvertip
    Soap/Creme: TOBS avacado
    Razor: Gillette old style
    Blade: Yellow pack Gillette
    Pre: none (as a test)
    Post: Lilac vegetal splash.
    Hair Groom: jeris w/ oil
Result: I read an old shaving manual recently which suggested that if you don't soften your beard before you shave, that you will get a better shave. The theory was that the hairs would be stiff and brittle and thus more accessible and easier to cut. It seemed a bit like the whole cold water shaving thing, which has worked for some. My results were poor, but I was in a rush and my lather suffered for it, so I can't say for certain. I am certain that it was a very poor shave, and, that now that winter has finally hit, and with it, splashes are just too drying for me.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you my next shave.
Decided to take the gun barrel Weishi / Astra Keramik for a spin tomorrow. The VDH Luxury Kit is in tow as well. I think this shaving kit that VDH has put together is still the best bang for your buck kit available for the beginning wet shaver or more experienced wet shavers.
