I have no clue. I've set aside blocks of time to use nothing but MWF so as to see if I could get some sort of consistency. Just didn't happen for me.
I have been in a similar place as you Steve, but I don't even own any! I don't know, something doesn't appeal to me about MWF. I understand it has a huge following of people that absolutely love it. I have been telling myself I want to buy a puck to try...Sometime...but I haven't convinced myself of it yet. Something about Tabac just appeals to me more than MWF, so I think I'll be picking up a puck of that before the fat. Also I have quite hard water at home, so that may be playing into the decision too.
VERY mild. A soapy scent with hints of woods and citrus. It's got a hint of that unique scent of lanolin also if you know what to smell for. I like the scent, but it's so mild I don't find it a reason to buy or not buy the soap.
MWF has it's own unique scent. Not sweet or flowery or perfume-y. It smells like MWF. I didn't mind it. Kinda like trying to describe what carrots taste like.
It reminds me of the scent of my grandmother's guest bathroom. A nice classy old lady smell. Powder and soap. Clean. That's my take anyhow. I used it this morning
Are you telling me that when I use the my MWF that I smell like an old lady?? Now you listen here, sonny...............
IMO the French soaps are much better -- thicker and much easier to create lather. I live in a soft water environment and its too difficult to produce consistently good lather from MWF. Tabac is also a problem for me. Both soaps just require a dab of cream to create great lather. The best thing about MWF is the soap easily lasts 1-2 years.
I can live with $18. I'm shaving with Trueffit & Hill currently and that Puck set me back $30! Novice mistake. I won't buy it again now that I know of so many other choices.
I just had my first Fat experience and I am very impressed. I'm at my parents for an early Christmas where they have softer water than I do at home so I'll definitely report back to you when I have a chance to use it in harder water to share what I notice. This first run through with zero test lathers on either the Fat or my new Commodore X2 brush and I still was rewarded with a very thick and slick lather that produced a great shave and left my face feeling wonderfully moisturized without any greasiness. This scent is very light and I would not describe it as old womanly at all. Just fresh, light, and clean... oh yeah and with a bit of a fatty/sheepy smell... LOL!
I used MWF yesterday and you should have seen my Omega (The one in my avatar) I had lather all down the poor handle haha; ahh MWF.
Hopefully you've got the water and everything already that will make it a breeze. If you do, the stuff is a dream, if you don't it could take some perseverance if you want it to work. Have a look at Mantic's vid to see how he does it; my way is a variant of his, I just soak the puck in cold water while I shower. Ever since I saw the video, my MWF problems stopped but I have the right water to make it easy *shrugs*. All the hype (IMO, rightfully so) the stuff gets.......I think that is why the attention is so negative about it where it is be cause everyone hears how awesome it is and then it gets finicky on them causing resent. Anyway, best of luck to you, and again, I hope all goes easy with it.
