hot shower Muhle R-41 Astra Blade (d-2) Omega 10275 boar Palmolive shave stick. Nice shave today the R-41 does seem a little harsh when shaving the cheek area, but awsome under the neck (usually the other way around when trying new razors) Didnt realise it was cheap week this week, worked out well for me (except for the razor) Brush £5 ish and shave stick 49p
I believe that's the best picture I've seen of the R-41 head design. It does look kind of dangerous. I believe I will get one after Christmas.
Monday Gillette Super Adjustable (set to 5; set to 3 for 3rd pass) Red Personna SOC - Boar Lavendor SC Prorasso White ASB The shave was alright. Pretty rough in the end. I think that is due to the fact that I shaved twice on Saturday! The only reason i shaved today, and didn't give my face a (much needed) break is because it is my daughters Christmas concert tonight and I didn't want to look like a hobo. I am trying my best to tame the SOC, it took a long time when I go my first Owners Club, and this one Semogue sent seems very wild! Anyway, the Lavendor was very nice and felt great!
I haven't been posting my SOTD's in a while. But with it being cheap week how could I resist. Razor- 1908 Gillette Single ring - Picked up at a flea market for $2. It was black with tarnish and crud, but it cleaned up very nice. Soap- Arko- Got a deal on Amazon 12 sticks for 9.99 shipped a couple of years ago. 84 cents a stick Brush- Turkish Horsehair #6- Almost 1 year old and still improving with use. $2.49 Alum- Bestshave's green block- $2.50 AS- ViJon's Spice- A great Old Spice clone (smells most like the vintage OS) $1.69 Blade- Rapira- .06 Total cost for the whole kit $9.58. Not much cost for a shave kit that can deliver a WORLD CLASS BBS shave. Have a good day, Gentlemen.
Monday morning, Schick G1 Injector Razor w/ Personna Blade (3) Omega 20107 Boar Bristle Brush, Arko shave soap w/ hot water lather, finish w/ cold water rinse for a DFS! A nice shave with the Schick G1!
Monday, December 19th Razor: Gibbs Plus/Minus Blade: NOS Gibbs Preprietary Blade Brush: Simpson Douglas Pre-Shave: Musgo Real Glyce Lime Soap: Trumper Violet (Tallow) A/S: Trumper Marlborough In honor of the "Mournful Monday Shave" I used all discontinued products with the exception of the Glyce Lime soap. My second use of the Gibbs Plus/Minus razor was smoother than the first. I am not sure if it was an adjustment in technique or if the first shave with the vintage Gibbs blades is typically rough. Time will tell. The tallow version of Trumper shave soap is a joy to use and the splash of Trumper Marlborough (no longer available as an aftershave) was the cherry on the sundae.
Monday, December 19 VERY GOOD SHAVE TODAY!!! I started off with a DERBY blade ( decided I would give it a shot ) MAN! thats a pretty nice smooth save.I was impressed. We'll have to see how it feels later but as of right now thats the closest I've been to a BBS since I tried the feather blades. 3 passes with the DERBY and the setting on my fatboy @ #5. Started off with razorock and the 3rd pass was with proraso white. AND I FACE LATHERED THE LAST 2 PASSES!!!!! For some odd reason the razorock seemed to dry out in the bowl*shrug*
Monday: Hot shower then pre/post Proraso Tabac soap (love this stuff) EJ89L w/ Derby Extra blade Cold rinse then Aqua Velva Classic.
Enticed by a chrome polished Muhle R89, I thought to give my Slim Adjustable some time off. I know I told myself that I wasn’t going to start a razor collection, but the light bouncing from those chrome facets was too much to resist. And so, you know the rest. Along with an assortment of sample blades from Astra, Derby, Feather, Personna, and Shark, and a tub of Tabac, I felt well equipped for daily battle against the enemy, Whisker. Being somewhat orderly, the first blade in the R89 was the Astra. Because it was 6am, I thought I might still be dreaming instead of shaving, since I didn’t feel anything. But no, I was awake and getting the closest, smoothest shave of my life. All I could hear was a soft zzzt, zzzt as the Astra blade was doing its job, ATG, WTG, XTG. The balance of the R89 gave me a feeling of confidence that I never had with the extremely top heavy Slim. The slickness of the Tabac combined with the sharpness and totally irritation-free action of the Astra blade makes me think that I have found my ideal combination. I can’t wait for tomorrow morning. The Feathers might be even better, but I’m not feeling brave enough for them just yet.
Good show sir! Glad it worked out flawlessly. An Astra was the first blade I put through my EJ89 and I got 16 or 17 shaves out of it before it needed to be tossed. Haven't been able to duplicate that but haven't pushed it since then either.
Monday: Shumate 5/8 EJ Best C.O. Bigelow Alum Block Witch Hazel Afta Fresh Balm Master's Lilac Vegetol
Everready ($2), Hilton face (Free), No name bakelite razor(Free), Brut Revolution($1.98 & Overpriced) DFS - I used to shave like this alot. I got good at it.
Monday: Hot Shower followed by a Real shave Facial Scrub Kai Captain Excelia Japanese Style Semogue 1470 Boar Brush Arko Shave Stick Alum Block followed by Arko aftershave cream Selin Lemon Cologne. The only expensive item was the razor ........however I am off to Ireland tomorrow to visit my family. Back on Saturday....so the rest of the week will definately be bargain basement. I can't even remember what I keep at my parent's house! I think a Wilkinson Sword classic will feature strongly. Todays shave was good. The Titan Mild blades DO last longer than the feathers. Arko is a fantastically performing soap and the Selin Turkish cologne was certainly cheap and cheerful!
Very nice. I have come to favor my boar brushes and use them much more frequently then badgers I have here.
I have a very cheap Omega. It's the 13522. It's may be the cheapest one the WCS has. This is my first brush and don't know any better. However I like it a lot.
Trust me. More expensive doesn't always mean better. That Omega boar performs well above its price tag. Once broken in they have wonderfully soft tips with a good amount of backbone. Enjoy the brush.
