A 3-5 minute shave is the norm for me if I'm using a d/e or s/e. I'm a minimalist but I get BBS most times. 2 passes and touch up works well for me. I really don't need much prep other than a splash of H20. Now if I break out the straights my shave can last around 15 min, but straights are for weekends or days off.
Takes me generally about 15 minutes, on purpose. That's just the right amount of time I want and need to do it all right. Of course if I'm in a hurry, it's an injector and a shave stick - 5 minutes and I'm done.
I thought i was taking my time but its only been taking me 15-20 min. and Ive been trying to go slow and work on my technique.
I have been using my straight exclusively for a few weeks now and so that's why I said it takes about 30 minutes for me. when I use my DEs, it takes about 15 minutes. I don't understand how some of you guys can get it all done in 5 minutes. And some even less. I am impressed! Does that include making lather and post shave stuff, like witch hazel, a/s, etc??? I have tried to get it done that quickly, but it takes me that long just to get all my stuff out! Ha!
I agree. I can get it done in 10 minutes only because my "prepnique" has improved so much in the past few years, but I doubt I could be in and out the door in 5 without then having to wear a dark turtleneck. On second thought, the only way I could do it that quick AND safely it is with minimal growth and the Proglide. DE? No way. Next question: for those dedicated SE users, what's your fastest speed? (not that speed is wise with an SE)
Sorry. Couldn't resist. I remember the days of the 5 minute shave. I almost forgot how much I didn't like the cart shave (and that awful goo strip) but I shaved with the last of my son's Schick Hydro about 9 months ago and it all rushed back to me. I was so not happy with the whole experience. The irritation and the feeling of having lost a bit of class which was of course a post-DE related feeling, but still......
15 minutes, including letting the alum sit and cleaning up; in the past I could spend easily 30 minutes shaving.
Hey, I gotta give the Proglide a good word on that point only; you really have to try to cut yourself to manage it. And it can shave you smooooooth. But I don't use one, the wife does. It creeps me out...looks like what would result if an Alien facehugger impregnated R2-D2.
I used the proglide on my last course. Never again. I'd go through a blade every 3 days, and since I have to be clean shaven that was 2 4 packs of blades per week, I found ~$35/week completely ridiculous for shaving expenses. Now it's down to....maybe $2/week thanks to DE's.
Alright boys, I got out the stopwatch today and did an official check of my shave. I had a 3 day growth going so I opted for the R41 for my first pass. I used a Lord L6 for the second pass. The brush was a Frank's 28mm Richmond silvertip, the cream Arko from a tube. After a nice hot shower while the brush soaked. I face lathered the Arko, took around 1 minute to get a nice cream built up. 1st pass with the R41 was a little slower than normal as I find this a razor that can't be rushed. Finished the WTG pass 3 and 1/2 minutes in. Quick splash of water a quick re-lather. Did the second pass with the Lord ATG (the Lord L6 is built for speed). Nice and smooth with no need for a touch up. Cold water rinse, Pat dry, then a splash of Osage. Total time start to finish 5min and 45 seconds. Simple effective and not rushed. When I first started my shaves would take a good 15 minutes +, but really the bulk of the time was spent on prep and building lather. The actual time the blade is on the skin is just a small fraction of the time spent shaving. When I shave for enjoyment I stretch the process out, but when I shave out of necessity it can generally be done in 5 min or less depending on the software used.
That's not far off from my routine. Quick and effective, but not rushed. I can stretch it out if I am in the mood or am not in any particular hurry.
I enjoy my mornings and hate to move quickly. I know y'all aren't rushing but I don't want to be done in <15 minutes. I've done the quick shave in 10 minutes but it reminded me of cartridge/electric days. If I'm running late I'll skip the morning shave & just take my time with a relaxing night shave. Some days the shave just moves quick & I'm done in <20. Other days it's closer to 30 so I picked 25 in the poll. My mornings are about my only alone time so I take all that I can. Now that my shaves are more enjoyable I do find myself taking a bit more time for myself. Treat yourself well gentlemen, you deserve it regardless of how long it takes!
Depends on which razor....With my Schick usually 10 mins.... If I take a shower prep before a DE shave....25 to 30 mins for the whole thing....
