Saturday, January 7, 2012 Prep: Hot shower; Yardley bath bar; hand strop blade Coffee: Locally roasted, fresh ground Costa Rican w/ cream Lather: MWF - face lather Brush: Simpson's Commodore X2 Razor: Gem Clog Pruf Micromatic Blade: Pella SS PTFE coated (2); 2 passes Post: Cold water rinse; Kiehl's Balm A distilled water experiment shave after my hard water thread the other day. I loaded for ½ the time that I normally do (30s instead of 60s) and still had plenty of lather for 4+ passes. Not as much leftover as I do regularly so I may be able to decrease my tap water loading as well. The Clog Pruf limits the angles that I like to use so if I'm not careful I cause irritation trying to get the results to match my OCMM which I can now use effortlessly. Skipped the A/S splash today and just used the Kiehl's balm and I think that worked better. My face feels wonderful. Shave Rating - Splendid! God Bless!
You gotta at least try it! You like the ISZ pre-shave, so it can't be that much of a leap. Keep your lather warm if you want but use cold water for all your rinses. Then if you like that you can try cold water lather and just go nutso!
All I can say about cold water shaves is, to each his own. I tried it one time, not because I wanted to but because I had to. Not my cup of tea.

Saturday, January 7th Razor: GIBBS Click Pen Blade: Polsilver Brush: Rudy Vey D01 Beehive Pre-Shave: Musgo Real Glyce Lime Cream: Kool Monsoon A/S: Acca Kappa White Moss Emulsion I received the Kool Monsoon shave cream in a trade with Jeff (Crackstar aka Jay-dee) and decided to try it this morning. This cream lathered like it was on steroids...it almost reminded me of the classic Lucy episode with the washing machine that bubbles over with suds. The scent is a bit hard to describe though...I would say somewhere between Fruity Pebbles and Arko. I was expecting a bit of menthol (due to the name) but could not detect any. In any case, I enjoyed a fine shave followed by a dab of Acca Kappa Emulsion. The Kool Monsoon is a good economy cream that is worth a try.
Saturday 7th January Hot Shower, followed by a Real Shaving facial scrub Proraso Pre/Post cream Ford & Medley of Sheffield 333 5/8 razor Vie-Long N02 Extra Barber Brush Vitos Green Shaving soap Alum block, followed by Proraso Pre/Post cream Fixegoiste Ice A/S My second traditional straight shave. Once again a DFS shave, alough a little closer this time. I changed the angle slightly. An enjoyable experience with no cuts, weepers or burn. I do however still find the replaceable blade straights easier to use. The traditional edge is definitely less sharp, and the shave requires more work on my part. At least my newbie stropping does not appear to have caused any damage!
