Are political threads, or for that matter, are hot button threads taboo around here? I've been tooling around here for a couple of hours and it seems these type of threads are conspicuously Absent! I mean c'mon, how can I make any friends around here if I can't do a little mental jousting with them first?::duel Oh, by the way, my name is mark and I shave with a straight razor! I know some of you and am looking forward to meeting more of you! Mark Avery
Here's the deal, Mark..........there's only one thing we argue about here: =---> Aqua Velva <---= You are either PRO-Velva (HAVOC), or Anti-Velva (AVCL) Now, I can't understand why you would join the ranks of AVCL, the likes of which are nothing more than a crowd of unwashed heathens........but we'll have you anyway if thats the case Welcome to the Shave Den :eatdrink004 More than anything, we like to have fun.
:roflYou've made me feel right at home!! You couldn't get me near Aquavelva. Dominica Bay rum with lime is my poison!
Welcome to The Shave Den, Mark! My thoughts on hot button topics is, less is better. Just my opinion though.
I'd say hot topics are okay, as long as we can stay respectful of each other. Outside of the normal shaving banter, we really don't care what things you guys want to discuss, as long as they're legal, and not stepping on anyones toes, or are purposefully offensive.
Welcome aboard Mark. My only opinion on the matter is why not...as long as things stay civil and no ones feelings are hurt so to speak. I know you and I have seen alot of damaging threads lately related to political views on other forums..and we arent looking for that here.
Quite honestly I am not looking for that either, but you get to really know a person by how he behaves on such threads, and Isaac, if you've read any of my threads on SRP then you know that I'm all for direct talk with gentlemanly behaviour!
I am a pretty involved person politically. Having said that, I always hate to see a political thread in a nice place like this. People are stuck in their own frames of mind, and too often, put downs and funny "only to them" jokes are exchanged, just leaving the "discussion" void of value. There used to be a comment section on yahoo news for the news reports, but they removed it. This caused a vacuum and I think a lot of people started bringing the arguement to the hobby and interest forums, like here and other forums like this. Like I said, I am interested in some issues. But that is why I go to, and use, political forums. I just prefer to keep it there. I have offered opinion to threads in places like this a few times, but I usually regret doing it. It is generally a waste of breath/time unless you are willing to spend some real QT with somebody to understand each other's point of view. Without that luxury of time, people are just giving each other the latest 5 second sound byte of crap that the recipient knew anyway. Whenever I see political arguments in a place like this, I can't help but look at the offenders like Amway Salesmen, showing me "the plan". (no offense to any of them). I ask myself, "What are you trying to sell me? Why do you care what I care? If our opinions are different, what makes me wrong and you right about it?"
Simple answer to post number 1. Don't start nothing wont be nothing. Don't start a flame war and the thread will live. ::
Religion and politics mmmmmmmmmm........ I can get myself into enough trouble without speaking on these topics. But feel free to ot Greetings, home-boy. Enjoy your stay.
I’m politically aware, like probably many of us here. However, I’ve found that things could degenerate pretty quickly even on boards dedicated to such a “grown-up” hobby and supposedly populated by gentlemen. Consequently, I prefer to shut up. And I like the idea that sometimes a fascist gives advice to a communist without either of them knowing it. But feel free to try. And welcome.
Like all polarizing and highly opinionated topics, politics, firearms, gay rights and religion to name a few, I consider them a part of free speech under the First Amendment. I do however expect everyone to play nice and follow all standard forum rules.
