I take a used blade and remove the cutting edges from it. That's the shim. I then place it under my real cutting blade in the razor and tighten the handle and shave. It slightly increases the blade gap on the razor and gives a bit more aggression to the razor and shave.

I don't use a shim often, just when the mood hits me.

    Friday

    Razor: Merkur Alu
    Blade: Astra
    Brush: Omega boar
    Soap: TSD Cool Water
    Toner: witch hazel
    A/S: Aqua Velva Ice Sport

My skin is pretty much better, but my right hand was sore this morning, so I got out the Alu and had a nice shave (not great, but nice).

It's a great combo. I have been using the FaTip since Tuesday and I have to say it is a nice razor not as aggressive as the R41 but not mild by no means. So far very promising.

Please let me know what you think of it.

    Best,

    Jesse

    Friday 10 February

TSD 2X Iced Tea Tree soap (three days in a row, I'm diggin it)
    Gillette Milord, w/ Gillette 7O'Clock Sharpedge (yellow-thanks Scott-again, I'm really liking these)
    Simpsons Berkley 46, face lather
Polar Ice splash, and Proraso ASB

A nice two pass shave, DFS. Third day in the row with the same shave. I had to retire the Gillette Yellow this morning after its last shave. This has been an extremely good blade with the Gillette Milord. These have been some of my best shave's ever. If I had a bit more time in the morning it would have been BBS.

    Have a great day.

A DVH boar brush? Or a VDH boar? If it's a DVH, would you please share some pics?

    Friday, February 10, 2012 - GEMruary!
    1. Prep: Hot shower; Yardley bath bar
    2. Coffee: Dunkin' Dontuts w/ cream
    3. Lather: De Vergulde Hand "Extra fris" - face lather
    4. Brush: Simpson's Commodore X2
    5. Razor: Gem "Enigma"
    6. Blade: TP Gem PTFE (6); 4 passes
    7. Post: Cold water rinse; Krampert's Finest Bay Rum
Happy GEMruary! A month of the Gems with the 27th being the centennial of the 1912 patent. It seems that with my hard water that I can create a lather easier with my badgers. I got a wonderful lather this morning from the DVH Extra Fris. I find the scent very pleasant and this stuff lathers quickly and easily. The "Enigma" razor is commonly known as a G-Bar but we're currently trying to find out what it's actual name is but not having much luck yet with that. It takes at least 1 extra pass with this razor to even come close to what I get from the OCMM.

Shave Rating - Splendid! A 2-blader today as the Enigma doesn't get as close as the OCMM! God Bless!

Shave #5 on a Merkur? Those things are rough on me from shave #1. I refuse to use them anymore. I think it might be time for a sharper blade.

As if you guys were expecting anything different from yesterday lol heres what I got today...

    Arko shave stick
    Merkur 34c
    Voskhod (5)
    Col. Conk Badger Brush
    Homemade ASB

I got a pretty smooth shave from the Voskhod considering its day 5.....there was an ever so light touch of drag with it today though.....I think its time to flip the blade and see what it has left....if I get 5 more shaves which is unlikely that would be almost 2 weeks of one blade...thats an awesome feat! Even if it doesnt last that long I will still be very impressed with the Voskhods....they are serving me well and I will for sure buy some in the future!! That and Gillette 7'Oclock Blues and more Feathers....those 3 are my favorites and ima stick with em! The Arko stick I still cant get away from....lol I love it! I will have to buy me a case of it....half smashed into bowls and the other half keep in stick form so I can switch up lathering methods.....as for my other soaps and creams.....they are being neglected...I will keep a few but as for the others...be on the lookout....I will soon be posting for PIF's and trades and sales.....I am gonna break down and get rid of some stuff I hardly use and buy a bunch of what I love....its time for me to truely start enjoying every shave rather than get an iffy shave half the time from a new product I have tried which is part of the fun I guess...but I love what I love.....and I will give in to my desires lol.
