Tuesday Morning: Pre: Hot Shower Razor: Merkur 23c Blade: Supermax Super Platinum (2) Cream: European Palmolive Brush: Omega 10005 Post: Thayers WH, Cold Rinse, Proraso ASB I'm still kinda loopy and out of it with sickness today, so it was a weird shave, but I had to go to work, so I had to shave! First pass, I felt some tugging on my face, and neck, likely caused by dry lather. Second pass, I added some more water, and it was a bit better. Ended up doing less passes than normal, because it took longer than normal, and I slept in, but overall I would call it DFS on the face, and more than acceptable on the neck. Have a good day!
Tuesday Prep: hot watrer rinse, hot washing cloth Music: Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, The best of OMD Brush: WS badger / boar Soap: TSD Signature, face lathered Razor: brandless DE Blade: Feather, 5th use (2nd time rehoned / stropped on the Allegro mod L) 3-pass shave + some touch-ups Nice DFS over all (DFS ++ on upper lip but DFS - just below chin line) This morning I just felt like face lathering. That was really nice, although mug lathering stays favourite. Also I think I'm going to rotate my soaps weekly in stead of dayly. Gives me longer quality time with each soap/cream, I guess, and the more opportunity to really appreciate it. Less fuss, more tranquility. I like that. Have a very nice day all!
Happy Valentines Day I am so blessed to have my wife in life and love we share with each other. Tuesday 14th February Hot shower and facial scrub Proraso Preshave cream Feather Artist Club SS with a Superprofessional Blade Omega 10029 boar brush Culmak Shaving Soap Simple Facial Toner Simple Rich Moisturiser Pashana Original AS Two pass with touchup for a BBS. I think that The Feather AC SS is the best performer out of the three systems I have The RG and Excelia give great shaves.......but the SS just keeps delivering. I almost had to check if I had loaded a blade! Soooo sharp and smooth.
No wonder, Dale, it HAD to be rough, you just forgot to grab some soap also! OCMM/Ted Pella's Gem Stainless PTFE (thanks, Dale!) Vie-Long horsehair brush Tabac SC (new tube!) Cold water splash Very nice shave. Stellar BBS!
I've had my eye on the AC SS lately. Do you prefer the Super Prof. over the other blade choices? How long did it take you to get the hang of using it?
I have been a day behind on my SOS posts for about a week now so tonight will be my attempt to get back on track. First I will post yesterdays shave and then hopefully in a couple hours I will get tonights shave up. (If you guys don't see it soon you can feel free to call me out for being lazy.) This was not supposed to be B&W but oh well. (My phone is smarter than me.) Gillette plastic handled tech Gillette Spoiler TSD crackling firewood Omega Boar Brush TSD barbershop ASM
Feel better soon! Having been through it lately, it is no fun ... and I totally get the loopy out of it part!
Thanks for the well wishes Shawna. I appreciate it! Almost there, but the loopy part comes and goes, sickness or not.
I'd bet that pic wouldn't be nearly as awesome in color. The contrast of the "counter" (not sure what everything is sitting on) is really eye-grabbing in B&W.
The Super has a little more exposure than the standard blade. I have both and I always seem to reach for the Supers. I also have the Kai Titan Mild blades but I do not find them to be as smooth as the Feathers. When I started using the Feathers....my main issue at the beginning was razor burn. It takes a little practice to find the correct angle. I have never cut myself badly. Just the occasional weeper at the beginning. I was reasonably competent after a week and a half. Bear in mind I had no experience with straights before using the AC SS. The blade holder is Stainless The feather DX is also stainless but has double the outlay. The SS also has a head with a slightly different geometry, which makes it much more forgiving than either the RG or DX. Of the three models it is the best for someone starting out. IF you do decide to go ahead with the SS a few simple rules will give you great results. Good Prep Plenty of stretching Corrrect angle Absolutely NO pressure. The first three apply to Traditional straight shaving as well....the last one is a must for the feather. The blades are so sharp....you could cut yourself without realising it. Hope I haven' t discouraged you too much. the SS is a fantastic shaving system. For me a 1 pass will give a VERY socially acceptable shave. Two passes will give a DFS or better, and with careful touch up or a third pass ....more often than not....it's BBS
Thanks, JoAnna I call that a black glass circle thing, but my girlfriend insists that it is called a charger. (she is probably right)
Tuesday Morning Merkur 37C + Supermax SS P.160 + Omega Mighty Midget Cold Water Rinse + Old Spice Classic A/S Quick (<5 min) shave, ended up being DFS nonetheless thanks to the slant/supermax combo. Looking forward to playing with my new order though when I finally get home mwahahaha, haven't used a badger brush in a while, let alone a quality one.
Valentine day shave Shower My first shave with the 1907 Gem Jr Bar, Lather Catcher/Gem Personna Williams Mug/Silvertip travel brush Nivia (yow) balm Used the 1907 Jr bar LC this morning for the first time. Loved it! Three passes and a little buffing, as close to BBS as I am likely to get without drawing blood LOL! Call it a DFS+++. Works very well under the jaw line. No nicks, no irritation. Not impressed with the Williams Mug, but am getting better with it. One note of caution though, if you accidentally trigger that little springy thing in back before you lock the blade in it will project the blade half way across the bathroom LOL! Wonder when that razor was used last?
