This is what the mailman brought me today! The last pic is the razor after cleaning. It is a Gillette and made in England. The Gillette logo and 'made in England' are the only markings. But if I'm not mistaken it is a Super Speed, though the end of the handle looks different than the post by this post by Chris a.k.a. MTgrayling (thanks for the post, Chris!). Please correct me if I'm wrong. The gillette dispenser contained one rusty blade . Underneath were five other blades of the brand "Punktal". Something Dutch, because it says "kwaliteit is alles", meaning "quality is all". The package says they cost 20 cents and are made of original Swedish steel. And they are 0.06 cm thin! I thought 0.08 cm was the standard, or am I wrong? The blades are rusty though... so I can't use them in my Gillette Old Style. *sigh* I will keep them though, for curiosity's sake. Nice to have a travelling case.It is a wee bit battered, but it will come in handy! Guess what razor I'll be using tomorrow morning?
Looks like you got yourself a British made Mid-50's Silver/Medium Flare Tip SS. You did a great job cleanin' her up!
You know the great thing about what you did?? There's not a guy here with a hair on his rear-end that wouldn't have done the same thing, me included.
Negative Ghostrider. Look in the above pic and you'll see the ring in the handle right above the flare. Now scroll up and look at his series of picks and pay attention to the flare. See the gap instead of the ring? What he has is a flare tip Rocket! Very close though. Like this one: And as always, please correct me if I'm wrong. Nod to Achim for the pics
This week I jumped into the injector world. I asked Johnny for his help in selecting my first one and he suggested a Schick G1 on eBay that I eventually won for $15. Johnny also showed me his favorite blades and gave me a copy of the original Schick instructions. I can't thank him enough for his time. I look forward to trying and learning something new.
It's a 1950s flare-tip Rocket Travel Set. Here's mine, complete with shipper box: http://www.renaldo.us/razorgal/thumbnails.php?album=77
Thanks, guys, for the compliments and for taking the time to check its type. Couldn't hug the mailman though, I was at work and it lay waiting for me as I came home! Is the difference with a Super Speed only aestethical (the handle) or are there more thourough / technical differences?
Same here, but it's been more than a week ago. I've been sitting on it for about a month and a half and I still haven't gotten any blades for the thing. I am going to go to Amazon right now and do that.
I think the Rockets shave a little bit better. My regular SSs worked well but the Rocket seems to be better. Not sure why. Also, mine is a bit tighter on all accounts. All of the razor seems to have been made from tighter tolerances. A bit better quality I suppose.
