First shave with the razor from Soviet 60s..
6/8 Vostok razor (right from Naniwas and strop)

It was my first honing 'from the scratch', but the result is good. I still think I'll return back to hones because I feel I can make a better edge then the current one. Nice shave - smooth and pleasant.

 

Where did you find that one????

 

Well, it is quite easy to find some straights from the Soviet era here in Russia. Vostok, Uzkaya, Trud, STIZ in 2 variants and so on. I currently have Vostok and STIZ for medical use with stainless steel blade and heavy stainless scales. It needs some good honing and scales replacing, the current pair of scales are very heavy. My Vostok razor was lightly bent, so I was lazy to straighten the edge and hone it. Finally, yesterday I did it and it is very good by feel. I'll get it back to 8k and 12k to refine the edge, but even now it is a very good shaver. I'll post a pic of my next shave with it.

did a 4 pass shave. I think a 3 pass is my face's limit. after the 3rd pass the weepers started to really show up. still a DFS tho. good thing the feather is so smooth. if this had been with the super speed it would have been MUCH worse

I received a parcel of vintage Williams and Colgate soaps today. I dropped a puck in an open OS mug and was test lathering. Well one thing leads to another and I found myself lathering up. I never seemed to have an issue with modern Williams, but this stuff does seem to lather a little easier. It was just a quick two pass shave. My initial impression of the soap is nice, but it will take some time to solidify an opinion.

Shaved late last night for the first time with my GEM. Man is my face tore up. Today is my 22nd wedding anniversary so I had to shave before we go out and paint the town red. Only one pass WTG but this razor and blade combo are awesome. DFS

Out Sick For a Few Days

It felt nice to shave after a piping hot shower tonite and knock out three days of growth with a fifth shave Gillette Yellow.

Every time I use the Tet-a-tet cream and aftershave balsam, my skin feels so cool and well-protected from dryness and irritation. I cannot say enough good things about this great stuff. Although this shave was relatively fast, it still turned out to be BBS!

In light of my recent discovery of the drastic comparative mildness of the SuperSpeed to my Merkur 33C, I decided today to re-visit a recent not-so-pleasant shave. And yeah, night and day difference with the feather in the SS. I did my usual WXA 3 pass, but skipped the touch ups, because my usual touch up areas were not so bad. No nicks, weepers, redness, nothing. And there's something about the C&E Nomad that just chills me out; I've been hooked on Proraso, but it seems to have more of a BAM-WAKE-UP effect on me. A couple rough spots, but nothing I can't live with and definitely nothing that would keep me from calling this a DAMN-FINE-SHAVE!
