Injector & SE Party !!!

Not sure about the one on the right, but the one on the left is a Schick Paul Revere. I've been looking for one but they usually cost more than I can afford.

soooo, I looked up some pictures of the Schick Paul Revere, and the one in the picture is definitely not one. After a bit of digging, it turns out the two razors in the picture I posted are just fancy cartridge handles. good thing I got them thrown in with some other stuff! too bad, RAD not satisfied

Well, is it alrignt to say crap on here. To bad as the Paul Revere Schick is an excellent razor.

 

I have a Schick injector razor with bakelite handle coming this week from an eBay auction. I have just been using DE safety razors for two months and want to try SE. I keep trying for the adjustable Schick on eBay, but the prices go pretty high or someone outbids in the last 2 seconds. Is the adjustable preferable for beginners or not? Also, I read two different things on shaving angles, flat against the face with the head of the razor or slightly angled. What do you suggest?

 

Johnny, I just saw the Paul Revere on eBay.

 

Injectors are designed to be used flat on your face with no pressure. That being said, ive seen some people reporting better results by very slightly angling off the face. Try both ways & see what you like. Injectors have the blade angle built into the head so just don't over think it. Enjoy it.

Both the E and G type injectors are aggressive versions, especially compared to the later models. You need to keep that in mind, and understand that not all injectors are gonna shave like those. It may be a good fit or it may not....lots of people love those short handled bloodsucking vampire razors....heh. Seriously, they don't work for me but they're popular. Personally I prefer a milder razor (DE and SE), and the Schick M type adjustable lets me dial things juuust right. I also have no problem with the J and l types...nice and mild.

Best currently made blade would probably be the Chinese made Schick versions, rather than the German ones. You can find em at small drugstores and the like, with the blades running about $1 each.

It's gonna take 3-4 shaves before you figure out the tweaks needed from using a DE razor. Biggest thing is having to use more pressure with the injector because it weighs so little. You don't want that blade chattering around on your face,, and razor burn is easy to come by at first.

I've been using Jody's website to educate myself on the Schick injectors.

 

I just got the bakelite one in the mail today. It has a yellow/bone color. The little circle says Eversharp Schick and patent numbers: 1806087. So that's a type G and it sounds like that is not a good thing. Yikes!

I have an eBay bid on a Pal adjustable. I've heard they have some mechanical problems dealing with the adjustabiltiy or something. Would this be a better one to try, if I can't get a Schick adjustable?

 

How come it's not a good thing? I've seen a number of users here with G1's and they seem quite content with their performance.

 

I'm just going by Martin's remark about it being a bloodsucker and aggressive. And I won the Pal adjustable bid and it's being mailed. The handle is short on the G. It has the gold head and is light.

I have an offer of a GEM G-Bar, a 1912 and a GEM Clog-Pruf as a sampler for $25 from a reputable seller. He doesn't have Schick adjustable at the moment. Are any of these familiar to the SE shavers and if so, how aggressive or smooth are any of these? This seller also has a GEM open comb micro-matic that he says is really aggressive.

I think I will add a WTB or trade for a Schick adjustable Injector razor. I know there's a 3 month time before you sell. I'm not sure about the buying notice.

 

Oh ok. From what I had been reading (I've been looking to possibly get a few injectors myself) it was the E's the were more aggressive than G. Hmmm, I may have to research more.

 

I have a G1 that I've used twice and, while I love the feel of the razor, I'd like to complement it with something more aggressive that gives a closer shave. So, I'm on the hunt for a decent E series which I have read and have been told by members here that it's more aggressive than the G. That way, I'll have a G and an E series depending on how I feel that day.

I certainly wouldn't characterize the G as a vampire. But, that's just my opinion. Vary your milage may.

 

Guys, the prices on most of the injectables are not that high. And it's not easy to determine how a razor with react to you( or you to it). I would suggest that you experience as many razors as possible. Aim at reasonably priced ones Without cases and be adventurous. You'll become our next go to person on experiences.

 

The OCMM is my favorite SE by far. On the opposite end of the aggressiveness spectrum but #2 on my list is the G-Bar (or Heavy Flat Top, we don't know its official name). The Clog Pruf is well loved by many who don't get along with the OCMM. I prefer the HFT (G-Bar) to the CP. I'm not a fan of the '12s though understand that I'm in the minority here. Most SE users find the '12 to be the best razor design ever. I personally think the engineering behind the MicroMatic TTO mechanism blows every other razor ever made completely away, like nuclear bomb blows them away. It's quite impressive.
