This is a little current events notification from the few of us up North.

For those not in the know, the Canadian Dollar has been a joke for years (we made fun of it a lot ourselves) doing as low as 62 cents American in 2003. Since then however it has taken off like a rocket in value. Today the once unthinkable happened, the Canadian Dollar hit parity with the US dollar! The first time since 1976!!!

Rejoice! Importing days are here again!!

Just think of it as us Canadians being able to from the TSD store more often, since our money is worth the same now. :D

But did the American dollar weaken, or did the Canadian dollar strengthen?

    I don't follow these things. :ashamed001

    A combo of both.

In short here is the story... *takes a deep breath*

The Canadian dollar is considered an oil-based currency due to our large amount of oil. When oil prices go up the Canadian dollar typically goes with it.

However the US dollar/economy has been losing the international market's confidence for awhile now and the US Dollar has been loosing power against currencies like the Euro and the Pound for awhile now.

So when you combine those things together you get a sort of double currency adjustment. The raising oil prices raise the Canadian Dollar while the insecurity of the US market brings that dollar down on the global trading market. Put those two things together and you get a change of 39 cents over 2 and a half years... which is just a MASSIVE upturn.

It was up to .9985 last time I checked. I am not worried.. Next week it will probably go slightly above.. then slightly below.

It is all rounded up for the average person anyway.

But if I order Floid, it still risks being impounded by Canada Customs.

I spoke to someone about that (since I ordered some cologne once before which is also on the list) and they basically said it is very rare and even if they catch it they typically with not take it, they will simply hold it up for a couple of days or charge you more.

That is what they told me at least..

Why do they confiscate your Aftershave?

Canada Post has regulations about importing certain items that contain what they regard as 'dangerous goods'. Alchohol is one of them, but I have never had an issue. I think it is case by case...

I could understand Liquor Alcohol....but aftershave?

Do they confiscate things like mouthwash?

Like I said it is really hard to say. My cologne made it with no issue at all, but Smedley's had issues with aftershave.
