Thanks, I'll do that when I receive my Schick adjustable this week. So, you wouldn't try the Personna 74 blade in a G1 Schick for beginners like me? I've been doing well each time I use my G1 with the Schick blades.
Actually, it wouldn't be a bad idea to load the Personna74 into the injector you're already familiar with. That way it's only changing one variable, instead of also adding a new razor to the mix. Best way to judge how a new blade performs. You should be fine......just go slowly and pay attention to detail. Martin
My E2 is new to me but it is pretty obvious that it's been open & shut quite a bit due to the mark left from is sliding aside. Everything still seems nice & tight. I'll post some pics of it here shortly.
My E2 from newb & the grab bag... See the worn mark from sliding the spring over to open & close the head... And here are a couple pics of the E2 next to my grandfather's I1...
The I1 & E2 are the only injectors I've used. The E2 is more efficient but the I1 can still give a great shave. It may just take a little extra touch up or an extra pass.
I'm not understanding the part about springs in the E2. Do all the Schick injectors have springs? Can they all be opened somehow? I thought that Hydromagics opened with a lever. On my G1, I don't see a means of opening.
That little metal strip that looks like half of a loop on the underside of the head is the spring. It provides all of tension to hold the blade in place. In some of them, it appears it can be moved and in many you'll see that it has. I've even done it myself and you need to do some creative mechanics to get it back into working order. Don't do it.
I bought a J injector on eBay for $2.99. Description said a piece was missing that held the blade tight. It's the razor I am having trouble shaving with. The spring is missing, but the blade seems very tight in the head to me. I've decided G1 is good enough for me for now.
Very good explanation with a fair warning for guys who try and mess with that tension thingy. Yeah, I've ruined a couple injectors over the years trying to get them back together right and now I just leave those springs alone. I have a theory about that groove being done at the factory as a sorta guide for the consumer down the road. Seems like about every E and G types have that groove and they can't all have been opened and put back together in ok shape. Just an idea. Martin' Oh yeah, you were right in that other thread about old blades......my mistake there.
Agree. If you do open it you really need to make sure that it's closed completely. A loose blade really is dangerous. I've opened a few that were new to me and looked very crusty. Closing them is not the easiest thing to do. I've had to use a small flat head screw driver. It may help to take before and during photos.
If you think the Schick razors have adjustment issues, those PAL adjustable razors, when they go bad ...
Here are my Schick Injectors. Schick G1 Schick I1 Schick I2 Hydro-magic Schick J1 Not pictured and in my safe deposit box with a protective coating on them: NOS E3 issued to my Dad in 1945 NOS G1 purchased by my Dad in 1947 NOS I2 Hydro-magic purchased by me in 2012
The E2's were made to open all others are risky business to open...NO G's are suppose to open....and definitely do not try to open an E1... And I think your G1 would be the perfect razor to try those 74 blades in...Enjoy, you're in for a treat...
Yeah but they had to be beauties when you met them, inorder for you TO keep them that way!! And thats priceless that you have two of your Dad's injectors and know when he got both....Just Priceless...Congratulations, soo cool...
um, yeah, first shave with a SE today after TWS since early January and I may never go back. I just had the closest shave I've ever had in my life.
Welcome to the club. Not much pressure needed at all. I make three passes everyday. WTD, XTG, and AGT. Smooooooooth without any irritation.
