I was supposed to start my new position on Monday but couldn't due to my wife recovering from surgery on the weekend. My new boss is being very cold and unsimpathetic to the situation. The HR manager who knows I have extreme stresses in my life..and which told me a month ago to let her know if there is anything the company can do has turned cruel and pretty much said well that sucks for you Luke (I pretty much yelled at her and my new boss today when they conference called me at home today because of their lack of listening to me and criticizing me over the phone...that put an end to their baseless assumptions!).
Now I get to go into the new office tomorrow and play hardball with them. The one main thing I have going for me is they asked me to work for them because of my good work ethic. I didn't apply for the posistion.

.....sigh.....I think I may be looking for a new job.....and no...this added stress is not helping my wife's recovery and I fully intend on pointing it out to them!

I had over 5,000 unread emails in my gmail account. I started cleaning it up, but then got tired of it and deleted of all my email since 2005.

    Very liberating.

If there's one life lesson I've learned, and (sadly) seen proven time and time again throughout my 40 years in the working world, it's:

*You* have to put your family and your health (both physical and mental) first. No company (though they may "talk the talk") is going to look out for you. I wish you and your Wife the best. Both you and she are the truly important things. Remember, you were looking for a job when you found that one. There are always others. There's only one you and family.

    Since 2005?

True as that may be, it doesn't make it any less messed up.

Yep. The CIS (czardom information services) have determined that the message said, "Mr. Watson, come here. I want to see you." :)

So, I went to the mailbox today and found that my "shipment" of British (nestle) Smarties arrived. W00T.
(for those who don't know, British / Nestle Smarties are similar to chocolate M&Ms, only better.)

Saw this on Facebook today...(for the Arkansas Razorback fans...)

When you don't beat LSU you get angry. When you get angry you buy a Harley. When you buy a Harley you meet a 25 year old female former college volleyball player. When you meet a 25 year old female former college volleyball player you invite them to ride your Harley. When the 25 year old female former college volleyball player rides your Harley you end up in a roadside ditch. Don't end up in a roadside ditch. Beat LSU.

I learned today that one should not tell one's sister that her 6-yr old daughter's new Easter dress looks like it came from the Mama Cass 1967 Junior Miss Collection. <sigh> First, the reference needs to be explained and second, when explained, it doesn't go over well.

Thanks guys! I was freaking out like crazy going in there this morning. The first thing I had was a meeting with the new boss and HR manager. After talking for a while and me saying I had no issue with the work and expected hours...they seemed much happier. I stated my needs and they (for the most part) will be able to meet them. The day went fairly well...and I think it will be a good job...there is only one big issue, a mandatory 1hr lunch. I can't cut it down by 30 min and take off a half hour earlier (I will he working an our longer per day than I was). :( Tomorrow I will figure it out though...if it is possible that is.

It probably would of maybe, maybe gone over better if you wouldn't of ended with "But her uncle loves her anyway."
But everyone loves roast pork, right?

Well, things are starting to settle down now. It has been crazy lately. We still don't know how deep the rabbit hole is going to go with all the cuts and budget snafus around here. Now a new chapter in the mess have come through.. due to cuts from the state we are lower on staff, but because we don't have enough staff in all areas, we are going to take an additional x million in cuts from the state. However, despite the extra cuts, we are supposed to fill more positions?????

Besides work, there has been a lot of other crud going on. There have been issues with the daughter. She has actually been very well behaved for 2 months. But we have been dealing with the backlash of issues from a meltdown in February. On the bright (or at least lazy side) I decided that I didn't need to finish that free course and saved myself 10-20 hours of work a week. I feel guilty, but I feel much more relaxed and don't really care. I just wish I hadn't wasted 1/2 of my spring break working on assignments. Oh well... meh city...

I should point out at this point that I hadn't read the news lately and did not get the reference to recent events. Sorry if I offended.
